Paris Hilton sent to jail for 45 days

Source: CNN

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- A judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in jail Friday for violating her probation, putting the brakes on the hotel heiress' famous high life.

Hilton, who parlayed her name and relentless partying into worldwide notoriety, must go to jail on June 5 and she will be allowed no work release, no furloughs, no use of an alternative jail and no electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled after a hearing.

The heiress had arrived for the hearing 10 minutes late in the back of a black sport utility vehicle and swept into the Metropolitan Courthouse with several men in suits, ignoring screams of photographers lining the route into a rear entrance.

Wearing a gray jacket and white shirt over black slacks and with a black headband on, she said nothing and appeared serious.

9. Nope, this isn't something she can appeal.
Edited on Fri May-04-07 06:44 PM by Shakespeare
She will not be allowed any work release, furloughs, or use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail.

The judge ruled that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

She was ordered to report to women's jail in suburban Lynwood.

Other two being Rikers and Miami-Dade. "Lockup" did something on LA County.

I've seen the inside of 26th and Cal more than a few times. To say that the buzzing flourenscents, the grey concrete block walls, and the atmosphere of total, dismal, feeling of hoplessness is depressing is an understatement.

shame on all cheeseheads who don't recognize just how much effort our authorities have put into our prison system. Of course, they have bragging rights with Milwaukee.

used to slave for a medium-large firm that defended corpserate America, insurers, and doctors. Lots of toxic, products, medical devices, construction, - if there was a lot of death and destruction, we got involved.
When a high ranking vp of a huge company (they have a 'not small' foot print in Iraq) instructed me to buy off a judge on a rather complex construction disaster case (two dead, many, many, many hurt) I realized that my professional goals were not being met by staying there.

I said no, happily losing the client, and over the coming year, made my wy to be a solo atty. never been happier. It was not a sudden switch, but more of a gradual, with increasing speed, realization that life is a hell of a lot more important than filling one's pockets with dirty gold pieces.

PS My undergrad degree is from Wharton, but I could never handle the whole stuffed suit atmosphere of corporate America and the paucity of genuine intelligence and dignity therein, so I got out very quickly and have survived by my "wits" ever since.

of course it's just more publicity for her. what IS she, anyway? i always enjoy reading Nick Dunne's pieces on the rich and depraved, but the heiresses of yesteryear with chequered pasts come off like Mother Teresa next to Paris. :eyes:

50. That is precisely the point!
May I remind people that week after week we read of senseless deaths due to drunk drivers? I can't be the only one who read the story about director Bob Clark and his son dying because some fool was not only driving without a license but under the influence. People die because of the sort of things Paris Hilton did.

And for what it's worth, the news accounts make a larger point: Kathy Hilton and her ilk believe they are better than the rest of us. It's sort of the Bush administration -- well, perhaps the GOP leadership in general -- philosophy writ large. For the wealthy and well-connected, there are no consequences to bad behavior.

Some time back, the TV section of The Washington Post did a story on what was then to be Kathy Hilton's new reality series. The headline said, "Class. She has it." :eyes: Apparently whoever wrote the headline hadn't really thought through the implications of that assertion, including its irony.

Given Kathy Hilton's behavior in the courtroom, we know precisely how much class she has.

And her attitude is decidedly un-American, in my book.

Getting a "wet reckless" in this case was probably a good result... but my guess would be that as a condition of her probation, she's not allowed to drink.

Any time she's seen in public with alcohol in her hands while on probation, she can be reported for a violation....

That has got to suck.

20. I have no pity
She is going to jail for the simple reason that she thought that rules didn't apply to her. She kept driving again and again when she shouldn't have. She couldn't even bother registering for th alcohol class that she was required to take as part of her sentence. She thought that somehow she was exempt as if others are required but not her. This is completely of her own doing and her actual defense was that she wasn't paying attention? Well I bet this got her attention.

No pity.

This full-grown, immature, selfish brat truly believes down to the bone that no rules apply to her.

45 weeks in stir might be more like it. It's probably what she'll get the next time she's caught driving drunk and violating parole, which will be the week after she serves this piddly sentence.

55. ABC "news"
keeps saying she violated her PAROLE. Look, I'm not a celebrity watcher but come on, parole is when you've been in a state or federal prison and a board has decided, because you've been a good boy/girl, you can get out early with conditions. Probation is something a judge gives you as part/all of your sentenced after you've been arrested and put in County Jail.

57. Showed up 10 minutes late....
...not good at all. This spoiled brat perhaps will learn something by spending 45 days in the slammer.

62. She's free until June 5? Seeing as it was her second probation violation
Edited on Sat May-05-07 02:20 PM by rocknation
why wasn't she locked up on the spot?

Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. She was sentenced to 36 months' probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

On January 15, Hilton was pulled over...Officers informed her that she was driving on a suspended license, and she signed a document acknowledging that she was not to drive, ...(O)n February 27...Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies...pulled (her) over...(Her) car (was) speeding with its headlights off...A copy of the document Hilton signed on January 15 was found in the car's glove compartment...

Hilton...testified she believed her license was initially suspended for 30 days...Hilton's spokesman...testified that...he...advised her that he believed her license was no longer suspended.

74. Even though paris is an asshole,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I wouldn't wish jail time on anyone, And the lawyers should know better. Some of my fellow DUers haven't been reading up on the whole conception, We've already incarcerated 2 MILLION people. Jail is a business now,Not a punishment.

75. I guess that's 45 days some violent criminal will have to wait
to go to jail.

Brilliant, judgie poo, brilliant. There are a hundred other things he could have done besides taking up jail space for a non violent offense based on a marginal alcohol reading, and I'd like to suggest he could start by smoking a little less crack.

76. Good, I cant believe she said she was being teated unfairly.
If I had violated probation once let alone twice my ass would be in jail for months, she got off lucky. Drinking and driving is not something to be taken lightly because you are cute.
