Iran: 100 women to stand trial for improper veil
Source: aki

Tehran, 2 May (AKI) - An Iranian judiciary spokesman said Wednesday that 100 women have been ordered to stand trial after the first week of a moralisation campaign imposing stricter Islamic dress code rules. Alireza Jamshidi said the women were charged with breaking the law on the veil and instigating prostitution with their dress style. Jamshidi added that thousands of others stopped by police on the street over the past week for failing to respect the Islamic dress code would not be tried because "they were not covered by the veil properly, but not in an evident matter and not intentionally."

Iranian authorities said last Friday they had arrested 150,000 women for breaking dress codes in the first week since the new rules were implemented.

Under the new regulations, women found guilty of infringing Islamic dress rules can be sentenced to jail.

9. That is a problem. The poor guys just can not resist temptation.
Maybe it's something in their diets? What really caught my eye was the shepherd in Iraq who was murdered because he kept a herd of attracive goats!

5. It's difficult to imagine how it must feel...
...to have armed police stop you on the streets for not looking Islamic enough. I just can't get it through my head.

Sickening place.

6. but, but, but, Iran is supposed to be not so bad!
I do not want us to invade Iran, but at the same time I will never understand why people defend a misogynistic theocracy.

11. It's simple enough - Telling Bush to piss up a rope gains you instant "hero" status

The fact that you're the head of a repressive regime that makes the current situation in the USA look like a Norman Rockwell painting in comparison is just water under the bridge once you decide to "stick it to the man".

12. Agree!
You can criticize a country's leadership without wanting to go to war with them. Iran's leadership is very anti-women.

8. A poignant example of why Christianity isn't so bad after all
and why there is no room for religion of any kind within the US government.

10. I am reminded of the apocryphal tale of how at one time Ireland
was so peaceful and so full of justice that a naked virgin could walk from one end to the other unmolested.
