US State Dept blames Iran for terrorism
Tuesday May 1 07:30 AEST

AP - Iran continues to be the biggest supporter of terrorism around the world, with elements of its government supporting extremist groups throughout the Middle East, particularly in Iraq, the US State Department says.

In its annual global survey of terrorism released, the department once again singles out Iran as the "most active state sponsor" of terror, accusing it of helping plan and foment attacks to destabilise Iraq and derail Israeli-Palestinian peace efforts. The designation in the 2006 edition of the Country Reports on Terrorism is not new, as the State Department regularly identifies Iran as the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.

But the report is being released as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice prepares to attend a conference of Iraq's neighbours at which she has not ruled out a meeting with Iran's foreign minister in what could be the first-cabinet level contact with Iran since 2004. Even as the report was assailing Iran's alleged promotion of violence in Iraq, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said Iran's presence at the neighbours' meeting was a sign of Iranian support for Iraq.

The report says Iran's Revolutionary Guard and intelligence ministry "were directly involved in the planning and support of terrorist acts and continued to exhort a variety of groups, especially Palestinian groups with leadership cadres in Syria and Lebanese Hezbollah, to use terrorism in pursuit their goals".

3. First off, where are you seeing "Eurasia" in the article and secondly it's an old word...
...and hardly an Orwellian term any more than calling North and South America the "Americas" is, or Australasia and Oceania for that matter. They're real geographical terms so chill. :)

2. What about al Qaeda? Where did Cuba come from in this report?
"Iran is one of five countries identified by Washington
as state sponsors of terrorism. The others are Cuba,
North Korea, Sudan and Syria."

Oh yes, the Expanded Axis of Evil.

Meanwhile al Qaeda is blowing things up from Pakistan to Morocco.
Wouldn't that make them the biggest source of terror in the
Middle East?

4. How much of this terrorism is a direct result of White House policies?
Answer: Most of it.
Negotiations in good faith work much better in the long run than 'Blowing stuff up".
Too bad that doesn't fit the objectives of the bu$h administration.
