Petraeus: Syria may slow Iraq fighters
Source: AP

There are early indications that Syria is trying to make it more difficult for foreign fighters to cross its border into Iraq to aid insurgents, the top U.S. commander in Iraq said Friday.

"They may be doing more than they certainly have in the past, which is not much, because they were not doing much in the past," Petraeus added. He said it was unclear what may be motivating Syria to be more helpful.

Petraeus said Syria may have its own reasons for limiting al-Qaida's access through Syrian borders.

1. It is LEGALLY the responsibility of the OCCUPIERS to secure the borders.
And that's a legal FACT.

Not that rightwingnuts & the bush regime give a fuck about laws.

8. And that may well be what Assad's doing.
If they can't get into Syria, they can't very well cross the border, now can they? And it would be easier to stop them entering Syria than track them when they're driving outside of Damascus. (Although that may also be a possibility.)

If we knew that guys were flying into JFK from time to time in order to take a bus to Canada and stab folks to death in Ontario, do you think the US should do something about it? Or just say it's Canada's problem, because, after all, it's up to Canada to secure its borders?

I thought so.

11. It would be up to Canada.
And in fact, it is the occupier's legal responsibility to secure the occupied nation's borders.

The bush regime can screech & shrilly blame every other nation they want; it doesn't change the fact that it is up to the US as occupiers to secure Iraq's borders.

2. "He said it was unclear what may be motivating Syria to be more helpful."
Maybe they are responding to diplomacy.

3. i wouldn't be surprised if Syria were trying to ship foreign terrorists
to Iraq as fast as they can. After all, the Syrians don't want them in their country; ship em off to Iraq to get shot by the Americans is a solution to their problems. Hey why would Bush even be complaining? After all, doesn't he keep saying he wants Americans to fight them in Iraq? Syria's just helping us out by providing the targets, after all.

7. Nancy Pelosi went to Syria,
talked with Bashar Al-Assad, and was labeled a traitor by the right-wing for doing so.

5. Whow, General Petraeus is RED HOT THESE DAYS.
What a Red hot Tamale, he's in the news every hour now, it seems. And now, he's a historian even, giving us a quick update on Syria. This is a man who's suddenly in the Limelight & he seems to love it.

So who's minding the war, General?

Or is that maybe Your boss, Mr. Gates?

12. Has Petraeus officially been given the war czar job?
Or are they still interviewing a mile-long list of applicants? The line forms on the right--no pushing, no shoving!

10. Yes, and the same one who was indirectly named in a Colonel's suicide note
a couple of years ago when he could no longer take the corruption.
