Gaddafi quoted: Libya long way from nuclear weapon

Libya is a long way from having nuclear weapons and has no long-range missiles, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was quoted as saying on Monday. "Colonel Gaddafi says that Libya does not have any weapons of mass destruction per se, he says that they have equipment, they have technology, but that they do not have, especially in the nuclear field, any actual weapons," CNN correspondent Andrea Koppel said after interviewing the Libyan leader.

Koppel said she had asked Gaddafi about reports Libya had uranium centrifuge technology. "He said that they have uranium, he said that there is nothing illegal about that, and that they have centrifuges, but that they were a long way from having any nuclear weapons." Gaddafi also denied a U.S. report at the weekend that Libya had acquired long-range Scud missiles from North Korea, Koppel said.

2. I don't care what he has, the world is a lot safer without him in control

of WMD. I know there are some that make a living out of grousing and complaining but i refuse to see this as a bad thing. Gaddafi really appears to be coming clean here. We shall see though.

5. He had chemical weapons

Inspection team just back from Libya saw large amounts of mustard gas already weaponized. Mustard gas is WW1 tech but I would not like it to be dropped one me.

As far as biological and nuclear he had programs, but no weapons. Nuclear inspectors going soon so we should expect a report. I have heard Libya's nuclear program was more advanced than expected, but still not close to producing a weapon.

Somewhat predicitable that Gaddafi, as part of his rehabilitation scheme, will be saying we didn't have that much and we were not that close etc.
