Suicide Blast Kills 9 U.S. Soldiers
Source: MSNBC

BAGHDAD - Nine U.S. soldiers were killed after a suicide bomber exploded a vehicle in Diyala province, the U.S. military reported Monday. Twenty soldiers and one Iraqi civilian were wounded in the blast.

Twelve soldiers were returned to duty after receiving treatment, the reports said. Eight soldiers and the Iraqi civilian were evacuated for further treatment. Three of those soldiers later returned to duty, the report said.

The names of the soldiers who were killed are being held pending notification of their families. All were members of Task Force Lightning.

Suicide bombers attacked five other locations in Iraq on Monday, killing 46 people and wounding more than 100, officials said as the U.S. ambassador stopped short of saying construction on a controversial wall in Baghdad would be halted.

15. That's what the talking heads on CNN will say.
Jamie McIntyre said a couple weeks ago that more casualties means the US military is "doing more" so that is a sign of progress. I wonder if these news people have to swallow their own vomit as they say these things. I guess they like the money more than having ethics, decency, or patriotism.

42. Well, more US military casualties *may* well mean that they're doing more.
However, it doesn't necessarily equate or relate to any actual progress.

As we've seen in the past (e.g. before the 2006 elections), when US casualties caused notice, Bushco backed US troops off, sticking mostly to our bases, and civilian casualties mounted. Now that US forces are taking a more active role in the streets of Baghdad, US casualties are going up, civilian casualties have taken a temporary drop (in Baghdad, in the short term), but civilian casualties are going up in the areas from which US troops have been pulled, in support of the Baghdad escalation.

21. You're very astute on those numbers
average KIAs in Vietnam averaged about 13/day, over the 11-year period of 1964-1975. Anytime your daily KIAs are getting into double-digits, some of us might start having those flashbacks again.

And the Iraqi resistance just might be getting a little better at the game, too. I have a feeling the surge is uniting Shia and Sunni. Who says Shrub isn't great at creating unity? I just wish he'd pick a country closer to home.

Suicide bombers have killed at least 27 people in a series of attacks across Iraq, including an attack at a Baghdad restaurant near the heavily fortified Green Zone compound.
Near the northern city of Mosul, a suicide car bomb killed 10 people and wounded 20 on Monday, in an attack on the office of a Kurdish political party, police said.

The explosion occurred near the office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Tal Isquf, a Christian village north of Mosul, Abdul Gani Ali, a spokesman for the party, said.

Witnesses said that the attacker detonated a car loaded with explosives between the party offices and a social club in the village. Some of the victims were thought to be Kurdish peshmerga fighters.

In the city of Baquba, in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, a suicide car bomber rammed his vehicle into a police building, killing 10 people and wounding 10 others, police said.

have included the VBIED with KIDS in the car, and the young lady in an abaya. There's no "unlikely" bombers anymore. Next thing ya know, it'll be humpbacked, toothless grandma--only that hump will be a bomb. Odds are, though, that someone on the inside did give the 'tip' at a minimum...

34. It's important to realize,
the Pentagon (where these decisions are being made) was gutted by Don Rumsfailed several years ago. He personally interviewed all the generals. If any of them opposed Rumsfailed, they were asked to leave.

The only people left were butt-kissing Yes men, Sycophants. That's all that's left of the leadership.

So we should expect to see more stupid, hare brained, idiotic decisions. Look at that "Wall" which was started and had to be scrapped as of yesterday. And now this.

There's going to be more. Lots more. The U.S. troops are in mortal danger right now, because there IS no leadership.

Source: http://www.radioaustralia.net.au

http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/news/stories/s1905380.htm

Last Updated 24/04/2007, 14:07:03

Nine US soldiers are reported to have died in a suicide bomb attack near an American military base in Diyala province in Iraq.

Twenty other American soldiers and an Iraqi civilian were wounded when a vehicle driven by the suicide bomber blew up, the US military said in a statement.

The attack came within hours of a separate roadside bomb attack in Dhi Qar province which wounded two Australian soldiers.

The Department of Defence says the soldiers were in the first of two Australian Light Armoured Vehicles (ASLAVs) carrying out a routine patrol in Dhi Qar province when they were attacked.

One man suffered wounds to his lower legs while the other suffered less serious injuries in the explosion.

Four other soldiers in the patrol were unharmed. The injured soldiers were treated at the attack site before being evacuated by helicopter to a US hospital at the Tallil airbase.

They may be transferred to Baghdad if further treatment is needed, and it is not yet known whether the men will be returned to Australia.

I dont even want to know how many troops died while the media pestered the friends and families of the victims from VT.

Why too is the McNeil News Hour on PBS the only place that mentions the dead by name and number? Are we too busy to mention them unless it's a "round number"?

Support the troops, impeach bush so we can bring the troops home in first class not cargo.

However, the soldiers are peforming their job, which is to serve in a hostile combat environment.

People don't expect to be killed going to lecture hall in a rural American town.

Just not a fair comparison without bringing politics into the equation.

9 U.S. soldiers killed in suicide car bomb; 1 killed by roadside bomb
BAGHDAD (CNN) -- A suicide car bomb attack on a patrol base in Diyala province Monday killed nine American soldiers and wounded 20 others, the U.S. military said in a statement.

All of the casualties were members of the Army's 82nd Airborne, based in Fort Bragg, N.C.

"Today represents single greatest loss of life for soldiers from Fort Bragg in more than five years of simultaneous deployment," media affairs officer Maj. Tom Earnhardt told CNN.

In a 1994 training accident, 23 base personnel died in a crash at neighboring Pope Air Force Base.

Earlier, in a separate incident, the military said that a U.S. soldier was killed in Muqtadya, northeast of Baghdad, by a roadside bomb.

9 U.S. Soldiers Killed in Suicide Bombing in Iraq
By ALISSA J. RUBIN

BAGHDAD, Tuesday, April 24 — A devastating suicide car bombing on Monday killed nine American soldiers near a patrol base in Diyala Province, the military announced early Tuesday morning.

It was one of the most lethal suicide bomb attacks on American troops in Iraq. Another occurred on Dec. 21, 2004, when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest walked into a mess tent on an American base in Mosul and detonated his charge, killing 14 United States soldiers.

In the past six months, Diyala Province, where several Sunni Arab insurgent groups are active, has become one of the most dangerous places in Iraq for American soldiers.

Twenty soldiers and one Iraqi civilian were also wounded in the blast on Monday, the military said. Eight of the soldiers and the Iraqi civilian were evacuated to an allied medical center; the others returned to duty. ......

70. british troops taking part in the 'surge' ???
Edited on Tue Apr-24-07 09:29 AM by legin
Looking at icasualties it is noticable that the british troop deaths have spiked big (11) compared to their normal rate. The only other months that compare are usually the result of one incident, like a transport plane crash.

I perhaps don't believe that the troops are killed in the location that is reported

I'd say 1000 to 2000 troops are involved.

The figure for this month includes the helicopter collision that happened north of Bahgdad.

*OR*

The insurgents have moved south to stay out of the 'surges' way.
