Tech Gunman Shot Victims Over 100 Times
Source: ABC News

Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho was as mysterious in death as he was in life, leaving behind few clues for medical examiners. Dr. William Massello, the assistant state medical examiner based in Roanoke, said Sunday that Cho died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his temple after firing enough shots to wound his 32 victims more than 100 times.

But there was nothing unusual about Cho's autopsy, he said, and nothing that would have hinted at any psychological problems that might have led him to commit the worst shooting massacre in modern U.S. history.

<snip>

Those victims apparently did not fight back against Cho's ambush. Massello said he did not recall any injuries suggesting a struggle. Many victims had defensive wounds, indicating they tried to shield themselves from Cho's gunfire, he said.

Massello said Cho hit many of his victims several times.

Authorities had to return to the victims' dorm rooms and homes to collect fingerprints so they could make identifications, according to an official close to the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe is ongoing.

2. Not meaning to nit pick but the head line is very mis leading, it says that Cho shot his victims 100
Edited on Mon Apr-23-07 12:09 AM by mrcheerful
times yet thats not true, in the article it say's this ("after firing enough shots to wound his 32 victims more than 100 times.")

Clearly it means that Cho managed to fire 3,200 rounds, the total number of rounds that hit each victim is unknown as the article never mentions how many times each victim was hit. Sorry, I believe the news shouldn't be misleading in their head lines.

Edited because I got caried away with S's.

7. I wasn't blaming you for the headline
my rant was about how media puts headlines out like that and no one thinks twice about the misconception headlines like that puts into some peoples heads. I also did a rant on another forum about how the court systen failed to stop Cho from getting a gun. A freeper said that didn't matter because Cho could have bought one from the streets. Talk about holding instatutions accountable for their failyres, its just mind boggling on what people will come up with. Heck in my demented mind, when I first saw the headline, was Cho shot each victim 100 times.

3. "victims apparently did not fight back against Cho's ambush" but some DUers cite reports that
students did fight back.

4. I think what DU'ers are citing are the students that barred
doors so gunman couldn't reenter. Looks like no one tried to physically to overpower him. But I can't fault them, I think most of us would be trying to dive for cover or escape in this situation. It's not like they had time to plan to act together to overpower him. This was happening in fractions of seconds.

I don't think any of us or the "brave" chickenhawk keyboardists or pundits can judge what the students did or didn't do since we weren't there.
