a million dollar plus homes.

Wow. That's sobering.

7. maybe they'll go on the same day
as the Senate is probing Gonzo about his motivations for firing USA's and it would be illegal if they were fired to stop and ongoing probe as per Grassley just now.

Rep. John Doolittle, R-Calif., has decided to temporarily give up his seat on the House Appropriations Committee after FBI agents searched his house as part of a congressional influence-peddling investigation.

Doolittle's decision, to be announced Thursday, was confirmed by a Republican congressional staffer who spoke on condition of anonymity because the news was not yet public.

The lawmaker's decision followed by a day the disclosure of the raid on Doolittle's Oakton, Va., home last Friday. FBI agents had a search warrant for information connected with a fundraising business run by Doolittle's wife, Julie, that had done work for convicted GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Doolittle's ties to Abramoff have been under investigation in the ongoing probe that already sent one former Republican congressman, Bob Ney of Ohio, to jail on a guilty plea to charges of conspiracy and making false statements.

10. Only a guilty man would resign his seat on Appropriations.
He'll be gone from Congress soon. Doolittle is your perfect Republican corruption case...a moralizing hypocrite who funneled taxpayer's money to Republican business cronies who then kicked $ back in the form of jobs and fundraising money. Jerry Lewis and Duncan Hunter must be starting to sweat, bigtime.

13. Yet another scandal to add to the long list of scandals in the notorious BushCo regime.

The BushCo regime is certain to go down in the books as the most corrupt conspiracy on the largest scale ever pulled on a gullible public.

14. Doolittle is still in Congress? I thought he had done the tearful resignation bit already.
Someone needs to print up a scorecard to keep track of the Republican scandals. Opportunity knocks. If anyone does do that they should leave plenty of space for write-ins.

Doolittle steps down from House Appropriations
By David Whitney
McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON – Rep. John Doolittle, R-Ca, facing escalating legal uncertainties because of his connection to disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, announced Thursday that he is stepping down from his position on the powerful House Appropriations Committee.

Doolittle is the only California member of the panel’s Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, which allocates money for flood control projects, and comes just as the Congress is ramping up work on improvements to Folsom Dam necessary to bring 200-year flood protection to Sacramento and other levee improvements along the Sacramento River.

Doolittle requested a temporary leave of absence in a letter to House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio.

“I understand how the most recent circumstances may lead some to question my tenure on the Appropriations Committee,” Doolittle said. “Therefore I feel it may be in the best interest of the House that I take a temporary leave with seniority from this committee until this matter can be resolved.”

22. The article is in error. He was formerly the House Majority Leader
following Tom Delay's departure from the House, but became House Minority Leader (also called House Republican Leader) following the November 2006 elections.

Interesting "goof", that. x(

25. He SHOULD resign.
In February, Doolittle's campaign reported that he was in deep in debt after his recent re-election campaign. So Doolittle decided to start early on his 2008 campaign fundraising efforts. The money he expected to raise was to go mainly to paying off his wife's company - which is run out of their Virginia home.

Hopefully, after this raid, his campaign contributions will dry up...

His wife and children came by our home here a few years back before an election. His wife stood on my doorstep and refused to talk to me. My husband - (tho he votes Dem) - is registered as a Republican. They must have a list of the voting registration of every resident here, because she knew I was a Democrat, and she was extremely pushy and rude - demanding that I go get my husband because she only wanted to speak with him. Just DEMANDING that she talk with my husband - who by the way wasn't home.
I have no sympathy for this woman. She is NOT some shrinking violet who naively got caught up in some wrongdoing.
