Gore's Climate Concert Finds Home in New Jersey

By REUTERS
Published: April 10, 2007
Filed at 5:18 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Rebuffed in Washington, former Vice President Al Gore is taking his ``Live Earth'' rock concert to New Jersey.

The concert to raise awareness about global warming will be held on July 7 at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River from Manhattan, organizers said on Tuesday.

Gore had wanted to use the National Mall in Washington but two other groups had already obtained permits for that day. Then, an effort to stage the show on the nearby U.S. Capitol grounds was opposed by some Republicans in Congress.

``We had a number of cities all over the United States saying 'come here, come here,''' said Live Earth founder and executive producer Kevin Wall.

1. I think democrats should remember McConnell and the republicans
I really think the democrats are going to pick up more seats in the senate in 2008. And I don't think we should be as civil as we have been the republicans are showing their true face. Trying to undermine everything the democrats do. I would love for McConnell to lose his seat in the senate. He is one of the worst assholes in the cons party. But I suppose that is why they choose him. He does look like a weasel also doesn't he.

2. YES! This is close to me!
I am ECSTATIC because Giants' Stadium is only a stone's throw from my house! I will be there! I even wrote in my blog a while ago that New Jersey should be considered, and Bon Jovi pulled the strings to make it happen since he plays Giants' Stadium. Oh YES! I am VERY HAPPY about this! Have no fear Mr. Gore, NJ will welcome you with open arms!
ANYTHING I can do to get the word out to make this a success count me in. Recommended!

5. Madonna to sing at Live Earth concert
Madonna and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are among acts expected to perform at the Live Earth concert in London on July 7 to raise awareness about climate change, organisers said on Tuesday.

Built on the model Bob Geldof used for the anti-poverty Live 8 concerts in 2005, Live Earth will be held in Johannesburg, London, New Jersey, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai, Sydney and Tokyo.

A U.S. venue was only announced on Tuesday after some Republicans in Congress rebuffed environmental campaigner and former U.S. Vice President Al Gore's suggestion to hold one of the seven gigs on U.S. Capitol grounds in Washington.

"By attracting an audience of billions, we hope Live Earth will launch a global campaign giving a critical mass of people around the world the tools they need to help solve the climate crisis," Gore said in a statement.

"In keeping with that belief, that evening – following an uplifting performance with Spearhead at the city’s 9:30 Club as part of his ongoing Yell Fire! tour – Franti participated in a fundraiser for Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW). In addition to a screening of his acclaimed anti-war documentary, I Know I’m Not Alone: A Musician’s Search For The Human Cost Of War at Busboys & Poets, Franti also played an intimate late night acoustic set."
