Saint Cloud TimesA Department of Veterans Affairs investigation of the suicide of a former U.S. Marine from New Prague found no evidence that he was denied mental health treatment, except the account given by the veteran's family.
The report from the Office of the Medical Inspector released Friday could not support the family's allegation that Jonathan Schulze twice told St. Cloud VA Medical Center staff that he was suicidal but was not treated appropriately before his death.
Schulze, a 25-year-old Iraq war veteran, died Jan. 16. His family's allegation that he was refused treatment spawned an outcry and investigations at the local and federal level. The VA's Office of Inspector General is also investigating Schulze's death.
The report presents two contradictory versions of what happened in the days before Schulze died.
