McCain says he misspoke in upbeat Baghdad comments
Source: reuters

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. Senator John McCain said in an interview to be broadcast on Sunday he misspoke in his recent upbeat comments about security in Baghdad, where he traveled under heavy military protection.

The Arizona senator, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, maintains progress has been made in the U.S.-led war in Iraq, according to comments to be aired on CBS' "60 Minutes." Excerpts were released on Friday.

McCain said he regrets comments he made after a tour of Baghdad last Sunday, when he said he could see progress and the American people were not being told the "good news" about the war, according to excerpts of his comments and a press release provided by "60 Minutes."

"Of course I am going to misspeak and I've done it on numerous occasions and I probably will do it in the future," said McCain, according to "60 Minutes". The excerpted quotes provided by "60 Minutes" did not indicate which comments McCain thought were misspoken.

And it's one hell of a long swim back to the pier.

Lotsa luck, Senator Panderbear!

4. McCain: "I'm a moron and a liar, but elect me anyway!"
I am so sick of these people running off at the mouth, then when they're called on it, saying "I misspoke." Yeah, right, Mr. Straight Talk. Go ahead and flap your lips some more.

18. Ranks up there with those who claim their words were taken "out of context". . .
just once I wish some news stenographer would ask them, "Well, what is the context that makes your statement less than absurdly stupid?"

either way,you know that they're lieing. They actually believed the BS that originally spewed from their sociopathic traps, they were neither mis-speaking nor were they joking.

That moran can't even remember his own positions on key litmus test issues for the rePiglicans; he has to ask his aides to find out what his positions are, then reiterates that 'he's SURE he supports the pResident on this issue...'

HOW THE FUCK WOULD YOU KNOW IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR POSITION IS, YOU FREEPTARD????

13. A very expensive "misspeak", many innocents died.
I'm not sure which is more outrageous - the fact that he used that market as a photo op or that he's now passing it off as a little goof OR the he's assuring us that there will be more of the same from him in the future. Dear God, hook this man off the national stage NOW before he does more harm!

14. He got the misspeak part right, anyway.
There's already a sense that he is hemorrhaging support & can't cough up the big bucks to compete.

Now here he is saying that parts of Baghdad are safe and quiet enough for a casual stroll, provided that stroll is guarded by 2/3rds of our military plus copters and tanks. And now the retraction even before the 60 MINUTES show runs on Sunday evening.

Yikes.

Who's running this guy's campaign, and why doeshe still have his job?

24. "I will misspeak in the future"
Say John, Senator Straight Talk, could you, you know, let us know when you're "misspeaking" in the future, so we don't all think you're quite such a tool?

I think what Maverick John is really saying here is, "Hey, you guys never used to take what I said all that seriously! You just took it all in, and if there was a backlash, you'd attack the attackers. What gives?"

28. "Mis-spoke" - what's that supposed to mean anyway?
The most charitable interpretation is "my brain meant to say one thing, but it came out of my mouth as another thing". That may be an acceptable excuse for minor verbal slips, but there is no way he can claim he said Baghdad is safe when he meant to say it isn't.

31. McCain is throwing in the towel with lines like "and I will probably do it in the future"...
When, John? When we're at a critical juncture, during some fierce foreign policy activity? Is that when you plan to misspeak?

bush was the great miscommunicator. Do you plan on being the great misspeaker?
