Two British women killed in Iraq
Source: Daily Express

TWO women were among four British soldiers killed in a roadside ambush in Iraq, it was revealed tonight.

The women - from the Intelligence Corps, the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps - were inside a Warrior armoured vehicle returning from patrol near Basra when insurgents struck.

Two male soldiers from the Royal Army Medical Corps and 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment were also killed, along with a Kuwaiti interpreter.

A fifth soldier was seriously injured in the blast, which left a 3ft deep crater in the road. All next of kin have been informed.

Iraqis danced and sang in celebration at the scene of the horrific deaths, many stealing the dead troops' helmets and body armour as "trophies" of the tragedy.

The female victims represent the third and fourth women soldiers to die on active service since the conflict in Iraq began in 2003.

2. Question...
And I'm sure there's a reasonable answer. Why is there an Intelligence Corps in the Nurse Corps? I'm missing something here. I'm not saying there's something fishy; I'm just curious.

May they rest in peace.

4. Separate corps...
One of the women was in the Intelligence Corps, the other in the Nursing Corps.

Damn this war and all wars.

6. Thank you
I figured I was overlooking something basic such as that.

And I echo your sentiment.

5. Thousands of Iraqi women killed in Iraq
Not that one is any less important than the other, but I hate reports like these that make it seem like Western deaths are a tragedy while thousands of Iraqi have died during this.

8. I'm beginning to think its all relative
In other words we in the West are used to a high quality of life, so when one of our own suffers, its a greater distance in the fall.

The Iraqis have always been impoverished - 2 wars and 10 years of world-wide sanctions attest to that, even before OIF.

Thats the only way I can rationalize the situation and keep sane.
