Idaho gun enthusiasts target Natl. Guard tanks
Source: MSNBC/AP

For years, ATV-riding, gun-toting sport shooters have flouted gun laws in part of Idaho’s high desert by taking pot shots at ground squirrels and other animals.

Now, officials say, they’re also setting their sights on National Guard tanks that train in the area.

Rifles and pistols have been banned in a 68,000-acre area of the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area since 1996.

But the federal Bureau of Land Management is considering expanding the gun-restricted area by 41,000 acres to try to limit shootings at Idaho Army National Guard troops who report slugs bouncing off their tanks on a regular basis.

“There’s a segment of the shooting community that will shoot at anything that moves,” said John Sullivan, the area’s manager.

1. "A segment of the shooting community that will shoot at anyhing that moves"?
I guess gun nuts are real, despite NRA propaganda to the contrary.

2. "anything that moves"? I'm in N Texas and those idiots will
shoot at anything period. There isn't road sign anywhere that doesn't have bullet holes in it. What's really scary is thinking about the trajectory of all the misses--gun here, sign there and major subdivision just over there.

3. All our signs not only have bullet holes but also paint ball splats on them.
I saw a group of paint ball warriors over the weekend. They each had big round yellow things to hide behind. They were about 6 feet in diameter and about 8 feet high. Each guy had one and they were about 50 feet apart. The guys would pop out behind their cover and try to hit the other guy. It seemed kind of dumb to me but I'm sure I do things that seem dumb to others. What gets me is the military dress they have. Why not go to Iraq and let the government pay for your fun?

17. exactly -- how are the NG supposed to tell "gun enthusiasts" from "terrorists"?
hell, that could be an Al Qaeda cell opening up on the vehicles, for all they know.

I'd say label those "gun enthusiasts" as "unlawful combatants", throw a few of them in Gitmo, let them deal firsthand with the system they voted for.

15. so the livestock owner actually condones what those pricks are doing?
The fact that they can BE on public land doesn't mean that they can SHOOT at National Guard, cattle, and endangered species. Unbelievable!

16. These are probably otherwise
Law abiding non violent gun owners that bought their guns legally, and are the first to scream RKBA, 2nd Amendment, and other tripe. These things ought to be banned, confiscated, destroyed.
