Alleged politicizing of federal agency investigated

Eight-term Rep. Mike Castle, shown in March, hasn't made up his mind whether his name will be on the ballot in 2008.

Rep. Mike Castle wants to know how his name ended up in a White House aide's potentially illegal political presentation to General Services Administration employees -- and he's seeking answers in a sharply worded letter to President Bush.

In the aide's presentation, the Delaware Republican was listed as one of 36 GOP lawmakers the White House said it wants to defend in 2008. The political slide show on government time could violate federal law, according to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

"I do not condone this practice and I do not appreciate being drawn into this situation," he wrote. "I request that the White House removes my name and Congressional District from this and other similar lists."

Castle said Tuesday that he does not need help from the White House -- or Bush -- in any event.

Subpeona the Rove associate who gave the presentation for documents related to this and any/all other similar presentations. You *know* that this didn't happen in a void. While there would likely be some obstruction - it might push attendees of other similar meetings to come forward and whisper in Waxman's staffs ears to detail where else similar presentations were given.

4. He's my rep. - My thought is it's an attempt at a smear.

I'd be very surprised if it played out to have any valid substance. If Castle just shifted a bit to the left, he could be a repub version of Lieberman. He doesn't always tow the party line, but I think he really does try to make a difference - to the good - in Delaware. He has done alot of good for Delaware. I'm thinking he pissed someone off, or they have another, more maleable repub they'd like to try to get into his seat.

I'm gonna check out our Delaware repub page to see who Rove might think is a rising star. Hope it's not Jane Brady or Bill Lee. Jane had some connection to Abramhoff. Maybe they want someone who'll play dirtier in a very blue state. Lining up some hankypanky to switch out the Gov. Afterall, they have at least some of their people in place before they can do us dirty, and right now, they don't have that here.

Just a thought. Maybe my tinfoil hat's too tight.
