Chile signs UN convention on disability rights

Chile signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at a ceremony in New York on Monday.

Planning Minister Clarissa Hardy and director of the National Disability Fund, Leonor Cifuentes, attended the ceremony.

Chile will now focus on removing the barriers that affect disabled people and giving them full access to society and communities, government officials said.

The 50-article convention includes chapters on freedom of movement, the right to political expression and access to information, health, employment, housing and rehabilitation.

3. Found the UN site. It says that 40 countries have indicated they will sign,

but I can't find out which ones they are.

It opened for signatures only on March 30th, but considering the rebirth of the Dark Ages with Bush's pResidency, the chances his administration will sign it seem so remote.

5. I believe signing just started on March 30th
I know that all the EU countries, including the UK, have signed it as a group; but I don't know if the USA has yet done so. Good news about this treaty! I hope that the countries concerned don't just go through the motions of signing it, but actually take it seriously.

Right now we are the #1 cause of wars in this world and I think it is high time we get called out on it. If the UN were truly anything to sniff at they would have done so already, with the same furor they are going after Iran with (if not more).
