UKRAINE President Viktor Yushchenko, long at odds with the country's parliament and his prime minister, said overnight he had signed a decree dissolving the chamber and ordering a new election.

Mr Yushchenko, addressing the ex-Soviet state live on television, said it had been his "duty" to dissolve the assembly because of actions he said had violated the constitution.

He said all affairs in the country were "under control".

6. Hardly comparable
Ability to dissolve parliament is a standard feature of a parliamentary system.

7. Parliament is opposed to the "free" market reforms the pro-US Yushchenko favors
and what we find here is the undemocratic attempt to prevent the people from protecting their interests against rapacious capitalism.

8. hehe
USchenko favors only his own pocket and not some "free market reforms". He cut a very good deal with Russia for the transit of oil and gas from Russia to EU. The whole cheerleading is done by a company where his brother happens to be the chairman of the board. Cronnies at its best, but he has a good teacher to learn from. :)
