2,000 cheer on Obama at Bluffs event
BY ROBYNN TYSVER
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

COUNCIL BLUFFS - Under cloudy skies they came, parking their cars and trekking over soggy grass to get a firsthand look Saturday at Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

About 2,000 strong, they flooded into an arena at Iowa Western Community College - many of them young, many of them attending their first political event.

Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama shakes hands with supporters following an appearance at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs on Saturday.

Several bought Obama T-shirts and Obama buttons.

A few chanted, "Go Bama Go."

3. Barack Obama! Barack Obama!
No matter what; I think he wants what is best for this country and believes he can make things better for all of us. And you know what, I also believe he can, now if the rest of the country can only see this.

8. If you are not an Obama basher waiting to strike
;-) I think you will enjoy hearing him speak and the spirit of the crowd. I saw him speak quite a few times in 2004 when the crowds were mainly working class middle age and older folks, with a sprinkling of young folks and the audience was always encouraged by his speeches and it was really something to just be there. He wasn't a "rock star" back then, like they refer to him now to make him less of a credible presidential candidate, he was just a candidate for the Senate. Now that the crowd is filled with college aged people, I am sure the excitement will be higher and the sense of hope for the future will be intensified. Even if you chose not to vote for him, I think everyone should experience the feelings of a campaign rally at least once in their life, especially when Barack speaks. And yes I am partial toward him.

9. I plan to drive through Iowa
later this month, on my way to live in NY with my girlfriend. It will be interesting to see the distribution of bumper stickers on I-80.

10. You lucky dog.

getting to move to NY. :woohoo: Where are you coming from? Hope you will be happy there. I lived in Long Island(six months), NYC and Brooklyn for eight years in the seventies, and I wish I had never left.

I have made that drive many times after moving back to Illinois, and wish I was healthy enough to do so again. Pennsylvania was the state that always killed me because of the lack of towns close to the highway, only rest stops. So if you are going through there, and if things have not changed over the last twenty years, take some sandwichs or something for that day. ;-)

Have fun on your trip and good luck with your move.
