Anti-Bush Iraq Documentary Makes the Party Circuit
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031220/pl_nm/leisure_uncovered_dc&cid=615&ncid=1473

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - In the midst of a film industry crackdown on digital movie piracy, filmmaker Robert Greenwald is urging rampant, unauthorized copying of his documentary criticizing the Bush administration's reasons for invading Iraq (news - web sites).

The 56-minute film, "Uncovered: The Whole Truth about the Iraq War," concludes that President Bush (news - web sites) and his team distorted intelligence data and misled the American public ahead of the March invasion that toppled the regime of Saddam Hussein (news - web sites).

Greenwald has bypassed movie theaters and television, and instead has organized "parlor screenings" in thousands of homes across the United States with the help of Internet-based liberal advocacy group, MoveOn.org.

People attending can buy DVD or VHS copies that they in turn are urged to reproduce and pass along for free to others.

3. I'd like to see it to compare it to the Frontline piece

NPR carried Frontline's documentary on the buildup to war and that was convincing enough.

Pretty sure that documentary didn't show Powell's purgery at the UN and Bush's SOTUS lies. Would like to see a clean dissection of what they said vs. what the truth was.

23. I think Uncovered is much better than the Frontline story --
Greenwald lets career intelligence people dissect the lies one by one.

I just wish I knew how to copy and burn the DVD -- I have an Imac with DVD burning capabilities -- but I don't have the proper software. I downloaded something but I can't figure out how to use it.

5. I attended one of the parties on Dec. 7.
That Sunday there were over 2000 parties scheduled across the country. This is an excellent documentary, professionally done.

I didn't know Mr. Greenwald was urging that people copy the DVD. I'd really would like to have a copy, but I'm kind of financially challenged right now. Maybe I can get the host to burn me a copy.

after watching the film, then thinking about all the media frenzy around the Saddam capture, you realize even more than ever how US television really is nothing more than pro-regime propaganda.

21. Regardless of the WMDs..
There is nothing distorted about what kind of lunatic Saddam was. Nothing distorted about how he and his secret police terrorized and tortured his own people. Nothing distorted about the mass graves being dug up or how those in those mass graves were slaughtered, even with their blindfolds still on. There's nothing distorted about when those people were tortured and slaughtered. There's nothing distorted about the fact that Saddam used the Oil for Food money to buy lavish yachts and build many palaces while 100s thousands starved to death.

Clinton went into kosovo to stop genocide and I sure as hell wished he had gone into Iraq to stop Saddam's tyranny upon his own people. Clinton had Bipartison support in 1998 to do the very same thing as Bush had done in March/April of 2003 (which was a Bipartison effort as well).

Saddam represented what is most evil in the world of man and had to be dealt with regardless of what political party is in power.

As for war. Nobody wants war. Nobody wants to send people off to die (except for the likes of Saddam). Clinton probably didn't want to take that route with Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo or any other place where American sons and Daughters have died and I doubt Bush wanted our soldiers to die in Iraq and Afghanistan. But what other alternative is there when diplomacy fails? And Yes, regarding Saddam, 12 years of Diplomacy from the UN and the US failed the Iraqi people.

Some say we should have let the Iraqis handle Saddam if he was such a bad dictator. It was their own internal problem. Fact is that we tried that once. One of Bush 41's biggest blunders of Gulf War 1 was that we stood by as we urged the Shi'ites to fight and take out Saddam on their own. But 20 years of oppression and fear haunted those people and they were no match for Saddam's secret police. As a result they were slaughtered by the thousands.

Humanity, Human Rights are not issues that belong to the GOP or the democrats. They belong to both parties in the US. They belong to every civilized nation on the planet that values human life.

24. i can......
sorta agree with some of your statements, but the bipartisan support thing never existed throughout the Clinton administration. He only had support from congress his first 2 years before the GOP takeover.
With a democratic congress support was grudging. I just can't see Clinton launching a ground war in Iraq without a firestorm in congress. No way would he get support, and even Bush with his own party in power probably couldn't launch a land war in Iraq without the sept. 11 suicide bombing.

25. Bi-partisan support????
I can't remember Pres. Clinton having bi-partisan support on ANYTHING in 1998. The GOP were all busy disecting the blue dress!

We all agree that SH was a very evil man, and it's good that he isn't in power any longer, but the end doesn't always justify the means.

29. "As for war. Nobody wants war."
I beg to differ. W. and his Neo-Con buddies were creaming in their pants to get it on. I don't care how often Shrub claimed that war was the "last resort"... the f*cker and his band of chickenhawk thugs were hell-bent to have it, and have it they did. Nothing would have stopped them and their PNAC wet dream!

Mark my words, history will show the invasion of Iraq by the United States to have been the most unjustified, immoral, illegal, thuggish, venal, and uncalled for attack ever.

Oh, and what is it that makes it so difficult for those who spew this crap about "mass graves in Iraq" to understand that they are there because of what Poppy Bush did? It was he who enticed the Shiites to rise up against Saddam after Gulf I, leading them to believe that they would get support from the U.S... so they did. We did not come to their support, they identified themselves as insurgents, and Saddam had them all slaughtered and placed in the mass graves. They would not have died had it not been for "Too Stupid-to-be-Presdent's" father.

Now... go back to your little Clinton-hating corner and leave us alone. We know the truth... it is you who needs educating!

36. The question isn't about the evilness of Saddam
The question is whether the goal of getting rid of him was worth the cost: hundreds of US soldiers dead and thousands wounded, still thousands more dead Iraqis (those people we're supposedly so concerned about), a $200 billion price tag (maybe more) your kids can pay for, most of our allies and much of the world distrustful of our motives and our methods, and a less stable Middle East.

And in fact sanctions, as we now know, were working just fine in preventing Saddam's militarism.

Oh, and keep in mind that when SH was commiting his worst atrocities, the Reagan administration was actively supporting him despite his use of chemical weapons. And who delivered this fine news to the Butcher of Bagdad? Why none other than Donald Rumsfeld.

39. "Saddam represented what is most evil in the world of man and....."
had to be dealt with regardless of what political party is in power."

among all the amusing distortions in the above post, is this the most ludicrous?

let's see.....when, exactly did he gas and kill over a million Iranians, then "hundreds of thousands of his own people?"

huh?

if he most represented what's most evil, etc., why did it take dumbo and his string pullers two years in office to decide this?

why didn't they go after him imMEdiately

huh?

40,000 Iraqi deaths, (10,000 innocent civilians; men, women, and children) enough to fill ALOT OF MASS GRAVES!! These are ALL HORRIBLE DEATHS...bodies blown apart, burned to ashes, dismembered...

50,000 maimed and seriously injured Iraqi men, women, and children.

and the republicans want to change their story and NOW say we killed and maimed all these Iraqis for HUMANITARIAN REASONS!!!????? I think NOT.

I have a problem with this!

44. If you're correct, the next stop would be Uzbekistan
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 11:34 AM by Aries
Unfortunately for your case, they are our allies in the "War on Terrorism":

US looks away as new ally tortures Islamists

Uzbekistan's president steps up repression of opponents

Nick Paton Walsh in Namangan
Monday May 26, 2003
The Guardian

"Abdulkhalil was arrested in the fields of Uzbekistan's Ferghana valley in August last year. The 28-year-old farmer was sentenced to 16 years in prison for "trying to overthrow the constitutional structures". Last week his father saw him for the first time since that day on a stretcher in a prison hospital. His head was battered and his tongue was so swollen that he could only say that he had "been kept in water for a long time".

Abdulkhalil was a victim of Uzbekistan's security service, the SNB. His detention and torture were part of a crackdown on Hizb-ut-Tahrir (Party of Liberation), an Islamist group.

Independent human rights groups estimate that there are more than 600 politically motivated arrests a year in Uzbekistan, and 6,500 political prisoners, some tortured to death. According to a forensic report commissioned by the British embassy, in August two prisoners were even boiled to death.

The US condemned this repression for many years. But since September 11 rewrote America's strategic interests in central Asia, the government of President Islam Karimov has become Washington's new best friend in the region...."

Kazza Lite (the spyware free version) had to take down all their mirrors due to a "copyright violation" suit leveled against them by Sharman Networks - place irony (here). As far as I know, the link you gave isn't to the Kazza Lite software we all know and love. It appears to be that of an opportunistic organization that's taken the Kazza Lite name after the former was forced to shut down. Best to read the fine print before installing.

Edit: Here is a link to the real Kazza Lite site. They say as much, beware.

at their site:

"Uncovered: The Whole Truth about the Iraq War
Looking for a copy of the documentary that MoveOn.org Voter Fund helped to launch? Go to www.truthuncovered.com."

It's interesting that many, if not most of those interviewed in the film are ex-CIA or military intelligence. And not being a fan of those groups, it makes me ask whether a large part of the Iraq story is basically a Mafia turf war. Just curious...?
