Autopsy reveals Anna Nicole Smith died of accidental drug overdose

DANIA BEACH -- Anna Nicole Smith was on nine prescription medications that killed her in an accidental drug overdose, authorities said Monday, six weeks after the 39-year old former Playboy Playmate died in a hotel room. "The cause of death was combined drug intoxication," said Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper. "It looks like of she died of natural causes."

Perper and the police chief of the Seminole Indian tribe ruled out suicide, disease and foul play as causes of death.

Perper said tests showed chloral hydrate was a major factor in the death. Smith was taking a lengthy list of other medications including methadone for pain, he said.

Chloral hydrate is a sedative used to treat insomnia and alcohol withdrawal, relieve anxiety and ease post-surgery pain. Perper said Smith had been on several antidepressant and antianxiety drugs prior to her death. He cited the recent death of her son Daniel as cause for depression and a number of legal issues for adding on even more stress to her life. (more at link)

(I hope this can be the first and LAST Anna Nicole Autopsy thread, that said, when did "...combined drug intoxication" become "...natural causes?")

2. I found only 2, but neither in LBN, so I reason that if we don't get one here...
...it will end up being an all day game of someone not finding it here, posting it, it getting moved, someone else posting it, it getting moved, etc.

Better just to get it over with so most can move on to other things. (I personally would like some comment on the over use of non-illegal drugs though, because of the recent death of my best friend, who we have now determined died of an O.D. of Tylenol and Vicodin, not "natural causes.")

3. Actually, the autopsy only revealed drug overdose as the cause, ...
not 'accidental drug overdose.'

As the article said, "Perper and the police chief of the Seminole Indian tribe ruled out suicide, disease and foul play as causes of death." That ruling is an interpretation of the autopsy's results.
