AP Interview: GOP Candidate Mike Huckabee Says His Conservative Views Will Prevail in End
03-24-2007 4:33 PM
By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (Associated Press) -- A blip in most of the early polling, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said Saturday he believes his conservative views will prevail.

"Sometimes when people say, 'When you get traction, I'm going to be with you,' my answer is, 'You are my traction,' " the former Arkansas governor told The Associated Press.

"If people of genuine conservative convictions don't support a conservative with convictions, then quite frankly I'm not sure what the point would be to be in politics," he said in an interview.

Huckabee was on a one-day visit to heavily Republican western Iowa, his second trip to the state since forming an exploratory committee. But in a state whose precinct caucuses will launch the presidential nominating season, Huckabee has spent less time than better known rivals and trails in most early polling.

3. I think Huckabee has a good shot at the puke top spot.
He's "like-able".

He can beat Giuliani and Newty-boy, I think.

4. He is exactly right
Democrats were facing a similar situation in 2004. People said that Dean wasn't electable even though he held more traditional Democratic values that some of the other candidates. By the time McCain, Romney, and Rudy are through the primary they will be seen by the nation as pandering to the fringe right and as a flip flopper, not as someone who stands up for their beliefs.

5. I think the American voter.....
had enough of "the conservative agenda". Conservatives seem to think they own this country but IT AIN'T SO!

Huckleberry Huckabee is in for a rude awakening. :puke:

6. sorry Mike, its now illegal to gas jews, lynch black people, & commit genocide in the name of jesus
conservatives are no longer allowed to give small pox infected blankets to people for the purpose of killing them and stealing all they own. even the pope had to quit doing that.

of course you and your ilk still have gays and lesbians to beat up, demonize, and murder, although even that is gradually losing support in this country despite the conservatives' best efforts, thank grid.

8. Please, Goddess, let this feckin' eejit GET the nomination!
Never mind that the Hil-O-Saurus will open him up like a boiled peanut (read: GOOBER), about the first time that a major news organization prints/transmits something the least bit unfavorable about him, his famous micro-thin skin will flare up and he'll WHINE for two or three days. That's who the Republics need in the WhiteHaus: a WHINER, which is what this fool IS. He WHINES all the damn TIME when things don't go his way. Does it remind you of the current Infestation?

LET HIM GET THE NOMINATION, PLEASE! And let his little episode about using the Arkansas Governor's Mansion Fund to buy pizza, Velveeta, panty hose and a doghouse come to light. PLEASE!

Poor Mikey! You were okay until you started BELIEVING the shit that Rex (Good Dog) Nelson and the rest of your handlers were feeding you.

BY THE WAY: You STILL owe the people of Arkansas an apology over that Banana Republic shit you spewed on the Imus show. We DID elect your sorry, bloated ass TWICE, you know.

Go for it, Huck. I hope you GET that nomination!

9. I don't heart Huckabee
And apparently a lot of other people don't, either.

His charming smarminess and rather fakey affability are the frosting on his conservative turd filling.

10. It might be nice to have a real conservative
running against a real liberal. Instead we'll probably end up with a dino running against a neo-con.

12. I have only seen Huckabee on Real Time. I don't agree with him but he seemed
like a nice guy for a conservative.I wouldn't ever vote for hime but he appears to be a nicer and more reasonable person that any of the other GOP candidates.I don't know anything about him other than he is a bit too fundie and has lost lots of weight and is a typical "conservative. Why is there such hatred for him, other than he is the opposite political side? What makes him "worse than the rest of the GOP? I have no info so please educate me.

16. An article I read recently portrayed Huckabee as more of a *true* Christian.
Unlike the god-fearing neo-cons who use God as a tool to get people to blindly follow them down a path of war and hate, Huckabee was portrayed as the kind of Christian who believes the focus should be on heaven instead of hell and Christians should help the poor, etc.

The article made it sound like Huckabee might have a problem in the election because the conservative "base" would think someone like Huckabee is too liberal because he doesn't subscribe to the neo-con church of 'God-hates-everyone-but-us-hateful-fundy-jesus-freaks.'

Anyway, if the article was accurate about Huckabee I thought this guy might be a good influence on his party. At least a step in the right direction if nothing else.

17. Y'all Google Huckabee and CATO or Club for Growth.
You'll find why he is not getting any support from the Repugs. He ticked off the Club For Growth group. The same idiots that tried to defeat Chafee in the RI primary and helped us out. While Huckabee has excellent Religious Right Repug creds (he's a Baptist minister), he did a "read-my-lips" moment on taxes while governor of Arkansas. This resulted in a running battle with the tax-the-poor crowd at CATO and Club for Growth. He'll never get the nomination because of it.

20. Yeah, like McCain, once you piss off the real base of the Republican party
and the controllers of the country, you're done.

McCain made that mistake by opposing the tax cuts for our lords in 2001.

18. I heard him on TDS and was amazed....
I disagreed with everything he said, but he was capable of saying several sentences in a row without sounding like a jibbering moron.

How did the Dumbshit-in-Chief ever get where he is? (Rhetorical question.)

19. can a southerner win the Republican nomination in 08?
along with Huckabee..Jim Gilmore and Ron Paul are two more southern Republicans already running. But that doesn't include Fred Thompson who might run or Newt Gingrich..who has already raised $2 million for his PAC.

IMO Mike Huckabee is nothing but a third tier candidate struggling just to join the second tier. If he does join the ticket, it will only be as a running mate for McCain or Giuliani.
