New York Senate endorses Feb. 5 primary By MARC HUMBERT, Associated Press Writer
13 minutes ago

ALBANY, N.Y. - New York's Republican-led Senate overwhelmingly approved legislation Wednesday to move the state's 2008 presidential primary from March 4 to Feb. 5, where it would join California and a host of other states for Super Tuesday.

The Democratic-controlled Assembly was expected to approve the measure later Wednesday, and Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer indicated he would sign it into law.

The February date was sought by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and was supported by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. The two lead national polls in the race for the Republican and Democratic presidential nominations, respectively.

"Changing New York's primary date to February will provide voters with an early voice in the selection of presidential candidates and restore New York's input into choosing the most important office of our democracy," said Sen. Joseph Bruno, the GOP majority leader.

3. I'm waiting for New Hampshire to move their primary to June
June 2007.

As a New Yorker, it would be nice to get a say for once instead of being stuck with everyone else's third choice!

5. Well that pretty much assures a Obama /Clinton showdown
.... unless Gore come in. Obama takes CA. Hillary takes NY. The other places matter, but not like before

10. You mean the convention might actually be something more than
a carefully staged coronation? Wow, have you youngsters got something to look forward too next summer!

Highlights from previous conventions:

Delegates chanting over and over "Julian Bond, Julian Bond" in support of the alternate Georgia delegation

Dan Rather being arrested on camera

Chicago cops beating up demonstrators

And you thought DU could get uncivil at times!

7. Good, we don't have cross-over primary voting,
our voting machines are mechanical and the Primary candidate has always been chosen before we get our chance. Thanks for the link!

11. Too many big states being front loaded. This is only good for corporate candidates. (nt)
