Washington - Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has approved the deployment of an extra brigade of the elite 82nd Airborne Division to Iraq in January and extended that of another brigade to maintain combat power, senior United States defence officials said on Thursday.

The deployment will increase the total size of the US force in Iraq by a couple of thousand troops, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"It is a spike, no question about it," said a senior defence official. "But it will provide some capability during the transition period that Abizaid thought was important."

General John Abizaid, commander of the US Central Command, asked for the deployment of the 82nd Airborne's 1st Brigade after deciding that an infantry brigade of the Washington National Guard that was supposed to deploy in January needed more training, the officials said.

I posted on another thread about a young lady I met today who just came home this past weekend..She said it's definitely coming and was telling some people about things and what ailments will disqualify you..I've also got her phone number, am going to call her. :-) She did say OIL, talked about all the suicides, those going awol, and now is the time to alert the public because it's time for people to revolt, and with all the side-tracked news lately, they're working on this quickly..doesn't look good..

3. There was a speaker here in Japan a few weeks ago...
Allen Nelson. Vietnam War vet who gave a speech against the Okinawa bases, the war in Iraq, and war in general. I talked to him after the speech. I mentioned draft board recruitment ad I had just seen on the DOD website. He said the same things your friend did... Told me rather matter-of-factly that it's coming, and about the suicides and how they're running out of people because they can't replace them fast enough. He said emphatically, "Don't let them send you over there."

4. Yes, the storm clouds are gathering on the horizon...
I believe they are going to reinstate the draft. GoreN4 has written on one of his posts that he believes we will have the draft whether a republican wins next November, or a democrat. It seems that we are too deep in Iraq to only rely on a volunteer force.

So we should count on a draft, probably by next December. I have even read that they will recruit women, like it or not. I would like to warn anyone who believes that the new administration will be FAIR, as far as excuses, illnesses, or conscientious objectors.

Do not assume that these guys will accept reasonable excuses and limitations. If you have bad knees, expect to be shipped off anyway to work in the mess hall. If you have bad eyesight, they will find jobs for you that do not require aiming and shooting. If it is against your religion to fight in a war, count on them assigning you to clerical work.

In other words, the excuses that worked in the VietNam war will most probably be done away with. These are not nice guys. And they have no ethics.

5. I've heard that if you view porn on computers or have extra-
marital affairs that is all illegal... implement those somehow

Listened to Edward Moloney on Democracy NOW! discusses the shocking similarities between Ireland/IRA and what is happening in Iraq.

Ireland's Catholic Church = Iraq and Iraqi Resistance
British soldiers = America & Brits

Originally the Catholic Church welcomed the British soldiers as did many Iraqis, but then they turned on them when the soldiers started dealing out punishment and abuses; again, just like Iraq.

There were about 30k British troops for the approximately 650k population of Ireland and it took 30 years(?) to end the conflict. At the end of the day it was not military might or intimidation that worked it was diplomacy/politics.

Moloney said just do the math. If it took 30 years to come to a resolution, not my military might, with only that many citizens how many years will the US/Brit be in Iraq? Compare 140k soldiers versus 4.5 million people.

Moloney continued to state that if a resistance is organic it will not be resolved via military might only by diplomacy/politics.

Interesting Ireland/IRA similarities with IRAQ.. posted in this forum and copied my post here if interested..

Additionally, the British were stating that outsiders (i.e. mercenaries, etc.) were coming into Ireland to fight against the British just like the US is stating is happening in Iraq. He said that it was not true then and most likely not true now. And if it is then it will be even worse! Stated that toppling one figure or any figurehead or symbol will NOT change anything...only make it worse just like the Palestinians.

MANY similarites!!! Quite interesting..

Video/Audio is here for today's show. Moloney's statements should be here. I did not see a transcript.
