CEO Balsillie resigns as chairman of [Blackberry maker] RIM
CEO Jim Balsillie is resigning as chairman of BlackBerry maker Research In Motion as the firm reports more than $250 million US in past stock option accounting errors after an extensive review.

The Waterloo-based company said Monday that Balsillie will retain his roles as co-chief executive, with Michael Laziridis, and director.

While no deliberate wrongdoing was found, the review means that RIM will reduce the amount of its previously reported earnings up to the end of 2006 by a total of about $250 million US.

The company that makes the hugely popular BlackBerry handheld internet device is also reorganizing its board of directors and replacing the chief financial officer.
