Bulgaria still awaiting permission to question nurses over torture claims

Bulgaria’s authorities completed all legal procedures connected to launching a trial of Libyan officers which allegedly tortured the five Bulgarian nurses sentenced for intentional HIV infection into confessing guilt, National Investigative Service director Angel Aleksandrov said.

The confessions were among the main evidence of guilt that Libya’s prosecution used in the HIV trial.

The Libyan officers had already been sued in Libya, but local court acquitted them.

Bulgarian authorities still lacked permission to interrogate the nurses, Aleksandrov said as quoted by Focus news agency ...
