Bush to name commission on veterans care
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- President Bush will name a commission to investigate the quality of care at the nation's military and veterans hospitals after a scandal about the treatment of wounded troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

A day after the firing of the commander of Walter Reed, the White House said Bush would devote his weekly radio address to veterans' health care. The yet-to-be named commission will be bipartisan and will be given a yet-unspecified deadline to report to the president, spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

...

In a brief announcement, the Army said service leaders had "lost trust and confidence" in Weightman's leadership abilities "to address needed solutions for soldier outpatient care." It said the decision to fire him was made by Army Secretary Francis J. Harvey.

2. Insane. With the VA and the IG and Congressional oversight and watchdog groups ...
... the Fecal Fuhrer acknowledges the total and complete corruption and incompetence of an administration that has solely focused on ensuring that checks written on the Treasury are payable to politcal cronies.

have the least experience in and greatest antipathy towards veterans' "entitlements". THEN he'll announce.

10. Whoop-dee Sh*t...
What reason do we need an INVESTIGATION???????????????

I'd really rather hear about CORRECTIVE ACTION.

If there was a clear deadline for "the investigation", and an appropriation for corrective action, I'd believe in this...

But right now, this strikes me as just more talk to cover up one more embarrassment.

13. AP: Bush orders review of conditions at veterans hospitals
Edited on Fri Mar-02-07 12:13 PM by catgirl
WASHINGTON - President Bush ordered a comprehensive review Friday of conditions at the nation's military and veteran hospitals in the wake of a scandal surrounding care for wounded troops at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

The White House said the president would name a bipartisan commission to assess whether the problems at Walter Reed existed at other facilities.

The action came after The Washington Post documented squalid living conditions for some outpatient soldiers at Walter Reed and bureaucratic problems that prevented many troops from getting adequate care.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070302/ap_on_go_pr_wh/walter_reed

Bush: "we will use the commission's recommendations as aprt of our ongoing effort to improve our service to our nations veterans".
Ongoing? Perhaps the billions of dollars missing could've been used to improve the care of our soldiers!

investigate the hospital conditions. I know I heard somebody say thata few days ago...maybe it was the new Sec. of Defense?

21. Will this be like the Iraq Study Group?
As I recall, that "bipartisan" commission and its report damn near spontaneously combusted from the speed with which it was shitcanned by the Bush administration when Little Lord Pissypants didn't like its recommendations.

I sure hope no more military personnel get wounded while Mr. Bush gets around to appointing the members of his commission and they get cracking on their assessment. Everybody want to just hold up for a while?

to get the general public on board with privatization. that's why every department in our gummint is performing so poorly. they want to drown gummint in the bathtub. i bet most people would say privatize fema after the katrina debacle. we are being manipulated.

26. Big Whoop
Six months from now the report will be released -- it'll say medical care for veterans is a freakin' mess and something should be done. Brief mention on the news and no film at eleven. Same song, different verse. No louder and just getting worse.

29. Walter Reed is a military function so the Commander in Chief, Secretary of Defense,
and Secretary of the Army are directly responsible for health care for active duty personnel.

Looks like Bush will create a commission to point out just how derelict in performing their duties those three civilian leaders have been.

Unfortunately none of the three can be court-martialed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
