Russia Betters Air Defense, Eyes Space
Moscow, Feb 27 (Prensa Latina) Russia is working on modern fifth-generation anti-air and anti-missile systems with power to reach outer space.
At a meeting with the top brass of Russia's industrial military complex, Senior Vice President Serguei Ivanov backed the modernization.
The ex defense minister followed a call from Air Force Chief Vladimir Mijailov to supply this branch with true means of defense, including those to reach outer space.
Ivanov mentioned the S-400 Triumph anti-air missile with power and accuracy twice its S-300 predecessor and able to hit several flying targets at ranges from 98 feet to 248.54 miles.
Beginning this year, and until 2015, the Armed Forces will be supplied 23 such special devices, able to hit mid-range ballistic missiles.
