Cheney Remark Rankles Pelosi
Vice President Says He's Not Questioning Her Patriotism

By Michael Abramowitz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, February 24, 2007; Page A04

Vice President Cheney refused to back down yesterday from his assertion that the Democratic approach to Iraq would "validate the al-Qaeda strategy," as he continued a transpacific war of words with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Speaking with ABC News during a visit to Australia, the vice president addressed the criticism of Pelosi, who earlier this week said that Cheney's remarks were "beneath the dignity of the debate we're engaged in." She also spoke with White House Chief of Staff Joshua B. Bolten to register her complaint.

"She accused me of questioning her patriotism," Cheney said. "I didn't question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment."

"Al-Qaeda functions on the basis that they think they can break our will. That's their fundamental underlying strategy: that if they can kill enough Americans or cause enough havoc, create enough chaos in Iraq, then we'll quit and go home," Cheney added. "And my statement was that if we adopt the Pelosi policy, that then we will validate the strategy of al-Qaeda. I said it, and I meant it."

Oh sure, Cheney is a real military 'expert.'

Bwaa ha ha ha ha. This is the best the republicons can offer to America. Pathetic.

Throw the bums out, get some leaders who know what they are doing, and who will care for our honorable veterans.

6. I believe he also referred to hear as "Nancy." Classic GOP tactic.
Subtle degradation and mockery. She is Speaker Pelosi.

We're seeing it now in Mass where RWers refer to Governor Patrick as Duuuval. Knocking him down a peg by not acknowleging his position with a subtle hint of racism thrown in.

14. Madame speaker, if I may remind you of the words of the legendary philosopher and bard...
... Johnny Rotten: "Anger is an energy." :headbang:

You have the right to be angry, Madame Speaker, as do we all.

You have the intelligence and insight to control this anger, and wield it intelligently, as one would a well-designed tool.

And you've got the power, in your role of Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, to apply that tool to solving our nation's problems.

So acknowledge our collective anger, please. Pick up that hammer/lever/tricorder/whatever-tool-suits-the-need... and demolish what needs to be cleared away, fix what needs to be fixed, create what needs to be created.

We're solidly behind you. You do indeed have a mandate to bring about desperately needed change. Let's get the job done!

16. The patriotic thing to do would be to cut the US military budget by about 90%,
down to a true defensive posture (no more wars of choice!), and to pour our resources into "green" energy, jobs, decent social policy, good will in the world, and competent international police work for the minor threat posed by terrorism.

By buying into all this crap about Al Qaeda (a CIA creation, after all), and the "Great Crusade," and "supporting our troops," the Democrats set themselves up for attacks like this--for attacks by a war criminal and master thief, a man who has done more to destroy the U.S. of A. than any other human being in our history. Cheney should be pilloried and driven from office. How dare he speak! Let alone from Australia! But there he is, the U.S.S. destroyer Dick Cheney, lecturing us on patriotism, with his remarks taken seriously by the war profiteering corporate news monopolies, and requiring reply by people who actually love and serve this country. It is disgusting beyond belief. And the reason Democrats get cornered like this is their failure to think big, and their inability to extract themselves from the octopus of the US "military-industrial complex-gone wild."

I am tempted to say that it's not Pelosi's fault. She has, for instance, consistently opposed this unjust, illegal, heinous war. However, the fact that the new Congress is still not very representative of the American people, even after the Democratic wins in '06--with 74% of the American people wanting the Iraq War ended, and 84% opposed to any US participation in a widened Mideast war--and the fact that Congress does not have the strength to act in the interest of the American people, and impeach these bastards and end their horrid war, IS partly her fault. She, and ALL Democratic leaders, were silent as rightwing Bushite electronic voting corporations took over our election system, between 2002 and 2004, and are now "counting" all our votes with "TRADE SECRET," PROPRIETARY programming code. Our leaders' silence on this matter has been mind-boggling. The American people now have to outvote the machines, in order to get even a half-decent Congress. The Democratic leadership's weakness and failure are their own fault. If we, the People, had our druthers, 74% to 84% of Congress would share our views and would be acting strongly to implement them right now. As it is, warmongers still essentially control Congress. Our voice is now heard, but it is not decisive. And that is the result of who is counting our votes--rightwing Bushite corporations--and how they are being counted--under a veil of corporate secrecy.

Is the Democratic Congress going to change this? No. They are going to lard more billions of taxpayer dollars on Diebold and ES&S--to "fix" the election system that they deliberately destroyed. And "fix" is exactly the right word.

So we end up with a game in which Democrats have to defend their patriotism against the likes of Dick Cheney!

We need bolder representation, bolder ideas, and TRANSPARENT vote counting, to alter this upside down picture. Bold as in "no more wars of choice." Transparent, as in count every vote.

What will be the republican response. "We could have won Iraq if the Dems had not cut funding". Now the whore media comes into play and begins using their words....

How long do you believe it will take for the Iraqi conflict to become the Democrats WAR? At the moment it belongs to Bush. Do not let it become the Democrats conflict (war)....Democrats, stay yo asses away from anything that looks like you cutting funding....

20. She registered a complaint with the Bush White House? Oh, give me a break!
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 01:09 PM by rocknation
Pelosi...said that Cheney's remarks were "beneath the dignity of the debate we're engaged in."

...Pelosi's spokesman said the speaker is "moving on," but said Cheney "would rather launch partisan political attacks than focus on the fact that the administration has failed to support our troops in the field with the equipment and training they need."
:boring:

Here's how it's done, Nancy:

"Now, keep in mind, (Cheney) is the same guy that said we'd be greeted as liberators, the same guy that said that we're in the last throes. I'm sure he forecast sun today," Obama said to laughter from supporters holding campaign signs over their heads to keep dry. "When Dick Cheney says it's a good thing, you know that you've probably got some big problems."

Do you honestly expect Georgie to take Cheney to the woodshed about this--especially in public? You should have done exactly what Cheney did--register your complaint WITH the public, complete with specific examples of the Bush White House's self-serving policies and poor judgment. They're just overgrown bullies, and your only chance of getting them to behave is to make it perfectly clear that you're willing to give them EXACTLY what they dish out. Stop acting like a little girl who got pushed into a mud puddle and FIGHT FOR US!

27. Dick, dick, dick, dick. Is it wise to bring up questions of judgment?
You were, after all, the one who was so upset that Bush, the Brighter, didn't take out Saddam, that you couldn't wait to go back. You did, after all, help dimson pick out a fine ME war cabinet, sell himself to the Mercan people as a Christian and the Education president, and then appoint yer evil self as President, oops, I mean Vice President. You brought us the private defense contractors, you brought us Rumsfeld and kept him on, you brought us Chalabi and the INC, you brought us the OSP, you didn't see(?) 9-11 coming and your trillion-dollar, platinum-plated, privatized defense industry failed to protect us after the intell had failed. You threatened us with Saddam's nuclear weapons that didn't exist, you told us Iraq was going swimmingly at every turn and last throe, you shoot your friends in the face, and now you want to play the "missy" angle with the Speaker of the House...

I know I've left out many other examples of your fine judgment, but I just have to say, GO FUCK YERSELF, YER EVIL FUCKING SELF. I PRAY TO SEE THE DAY YOU ARE IN AN ORANGE JUMPSUIT.

"She accused me of questioning her patriotism," Cheney said. "I didn't question her patriotism. I questioned her judgment."

And this tired little skirt that the entire GOP hides behind: victory or cut and run, break our will, etc. The only people breaking America is the neocons junta dick installed. Retreat will be a moot point after you finish destroying our military, our economy, our Constitution...let me put it simply, there's a chance that al-qaeda will destroy us, but the much greater threat to our country is you.

38. All we have to do is re-define the strategy of Al-Queda. Let's say that their real strategy is to
keep us there, so they can kill as many US soldiers and incite as much hatred for the US as possible.

Then by leaving, we are beating them. And by staying, we are validating their strategy.

You see, dead-eye dick thinks he can define their strategy... but their strategy speaks for itself. Every time we take more action, we lose more Iraqis and more US soldiers. They WANT us to fight them over there, where they have easy access to US lives they can kill, maim, and destroy.

50. CHENEY's strategy is helping the terrorists

After 9/11 we had international sympathy.

Even after Afghanistan. However Cheney's strategy has been nothing but a public relations nightmare for the US on the world stage, and a massive boon for those recruiting new terrorists by pushing many setting on the fence into the terrorist camp.
