Man Denies Raping Woman While In Town For GOP Convention (OH)
POSTED: 1:22 pm EST February 23, 2007
UPDATED: 1:43 pm EST February 23, 2007

CLEVELAND -- A lawyer who leads a Michigan young Republicans organization pleaded not guilty on Friday to raping a woman while in the city for a convention last July.

A grand jury on Feb. 7 returned a 17-count indictment against Michael A. Flory, 32, including charges of rape, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, gross sexual imposition and witness intimidation.

Flory appeared for arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court and his bond was set at $10,000, which he posted.

In a prepared statement Friday, Flory said, "When all of the facts are revealed, there will be no question as to my innocence."

Flory, who has a law office in Okemos, Mich., was among the young Republicans, ages 18 to 40, at a convention in Cleveland when police said on July 9 that a 21-year-old woman, also from Michigan, said she had been sexually attacked and was taken for hospital treatment.

1. Nothing like good ol' family values Christian republican rape.
Tears me right up with pride. God bless America and the Republicans who are keeping her a Christian nation!

2. Those young republicans are such badasses when it comes to picking on women
"When all the facts revealed?" One fact he won't want put into evidence. The only way young republicans can get sex is through force.

4. He must not have gotten a big enough bribe ...
When they announced that the Repukes were coming to Cleveland to see if the 2008 convention would be here, I told a bunch of people that this was a total load of BS ... that the Repukes would come out here, get bribed by the local officials, nail a few broads, and then announce what they intended all along ... that Cleveland wasn't going to host the convention.

This ass must not have gotten his rocks off with the virtual BJ that the city was giving them ... and he decided to take it out on a woman (like a Repuke - "Shut up and enjoy the ride! Who's the world gonna believe? Me or a hooker?")

15. That still doesn't mean shit to him though
Women are property to republicans, when a republican think women he thinks of them like a farmer would think of "Livestock": A commodity.

7. Does he intend to plead Deuteronomy 22:25-29 as his defense?
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 03:32 PM by IanDB1
22:25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die. Country Rape
If a woman is raped in the country, then only the man shall die (since there was no one to hear her if she cried out.)

22:26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:

22:27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; (22:28-29)

If a man rapes an unbetrothed virgin, he must pay her father 50 shekels of silver and then marry her.
22:29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

9. So THAT's how you get a virgin to go out with you (sarcasm)
Religion is so goddamn stupid and backwards, I marvel at the seemingly sane people who follow it.

I have had no inkling in my adult life to talk to invisible friends or attribute completely explainable things to mythological bullshit, nor do I understand the instinct to do so.

Seems so primitive and silly, and frankly - dangerous.

I wish we could outgrow fighting wars and killing people over who's god is the coolest.

By the way, do those that take the Bible literally adjust the cost of certain fines in the Bible for inflation, or do you just keep getting a better deal on virgins the more time that passes?

11. For its time . . .
The Deuteronomy passage cited above was remarkably progressive, in that it codified certain rights for the violated woman in a society and at a time when women were generally regarded as little more than another chattel property of men.

I marvel at the seemingly sane people who make gross overgeneralizations about subjects they freely confess that they don't understand. It's so goddamn stupid and backwards of them, but what are you gonna do?

17. Like laws prohibiting the mistreatment of slaves
I am little impressed with "progressive" Biblical "laws". I am highly suspicious of any book that glorifies rape, murder, incest and numerous anti-social acts.

Corruption of public figures
Cronyism
Child molestation

to steal a joke about Bernard Kerik from Keith Olbermann
According to a police report, Flory became a suspect because the woman said she had been out drinking with friends, became intoxicated and that Flory took her back to her hotel room.

12. "Young" Republics, ages 18 to 40?
Guess I'm naive, but when I hear "young" Democrats or "young" Republics, I think upper teens to low 20's. At what age do Republics become adults? Was this guy a chaperon? :shrug:

16. Remember, bush quit drinking at 40 (or thereabouts, depending on which videotape you watch) and he
claimed (during his first Presidential campaign) that he was guilty only of "youthful indescretions."

Republicans are youths until 40, obviously. Boys who never grew up.

20. A little more backstory - 17 count indictment

<snip>

A grand jury returned a 17-count indictment Wednesday against Michael A. Flory, 32, including charges of rape, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, gross sexual imposition and witness intimidation.

Police and prosecutors say he escorted a drunken 21-year-old colleague to her hotel room after an evening of partying. He attacked her when she was feeling sick and on the verge of passing out, she told police.

<snip>

Cuyahoga County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Carol Skutnik described Flory as a mentor to the woman and said their relationship was "almost a parent-child, student-teacher thing."

<snip>

"There were efforts made to contact her, to cut her off at the pass to avoid going through with prosecution," Skutnik said.
