Attorney: Marines involved in alleged attack on Yale singers
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 10:29 PM by kskiska
As many as three U.S. Marines were involved in the alleged New Year's attack on the Baker's Dozen singing group, an attorney for two singers is claiming in a letter that asks for the head of the Marine Corps' help in the investigation.

The case -- which sparked outrage on both coasts -- began with a dispute at a Richmond District party and ended with members of the singing group telling police they were kicked and beaten. One singer, Sharyar Aziz, Jr., suffered a broken jaw and another, Evan Gogel, a concussion.

In a Feb. 9 letter to Lt. General Robert R. Blackman, Jr., the head of the corps, attorney James Hammer named only one of the Marines allegedly involved, saying that he "was one of the men at the center of the attacks and we believe (he) personally participated in the brutal attack on both students.''

The Chronicle is not naming anyone suspected of being involved in the attack as they have not been arrested or charged with crimes.

Sgt. Neville Gittens, a spokesman for San Francisco police, said the department's criminal investigation is ongoing. "We're aware of the letter, we are not commenting on the letter.''

10. Exactly
People were going nuts saying that the "liberal cops in SF" were letting these liberal thugs off because their victims were Yale Republicans. I've dealt with quite a few cops in SF and they were far from liberal and Newsom is considered a Republican by progressive liberal standards whatever those are. wow my
sentence structure is horrible. do i even make sense?

the indignity of being held responsible for some grotesque conduct, and the U.S. Marines Corps as well.

It's not hard to see there's a real battle going on in human nature right here in our own country: violent, self-centered idiots against the world of normal people.

Thanks for posting this article.

18. People say and do stupid things after a few drinks. Were the Marines
in uniform? Let's don't assume the Marines were at fault or that the singers were pansies.

9. A capella? They sing without music? The Taliban hates music!
They are obviously terra-rists and our brave Marines were showing their red, white, and blue manliness.

15. Absolutely! These guys look like trouble!
From their website:

http://www.thebakersdozen.com/main.htm

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The elder Aziz said he believes that “small town politics” likely prevented the San Francisco police department from taking swifter action on the case initially. Some of the suspects are the sons of a prominent area pediatrician, he said, and have a local reputation for violence.
Aziz is expected to make a full recovery, but his jaw is permanently fitted with titanium and he will stay on a liquid diet for eight weeks. His injuries will prevent him from singing with the Baker’s Dozen or competing on the varsity squash team through the duration of his recovery.
13. But wait...there's more!
Here is Dennis Miller's take from Faux News
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP7rP_sZozY
If your stomach can't take Miller, his spin is basically that a bunch of San Fran Hippies beat up some patriots for singing the National Anthem.
The spin doesn't getting more absurd than this.
14. And we care about this, why? Beacuse the kids that got beat up are rich and go to yale?
I mean really, assaults happen all the time and don't get this much coverage.
19. How do you know they're rich?
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 01:33 PM by KamaAina
I went to Yale. I'm not rich. Never have been.
Yale, like the other Ivies (except, I believe, Brown) has "need-blind" admissions, that is, you get in based on merit, then they determine how much financial aid you'll need -- and they fund it fully, although the package normally includes work-study as well as the dreaded student loans.
And we care about this, why?
"The incident drew national attention when it was suggested that the group was targeted with anti-homosexual slurs as they gave a rendition of the Star Spangled Banner."
To summarize, a bunch of off-duty Marines went around gay-bashing. That's why we care about this.
