Caracas, Feb 12 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela´s Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro defended Venezuelan sovereignty Monday against recent pronouncements of US Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns to end US oil purchases from Venezuela.

Burns said "energy has become a great diplomatic subject," which is "negative for Iran and Venezuela," and called to end US dependence on those countries.

Maduro reminded that "the world knows who has been the aggressor against this government" and recalled that everyone is also familiar with Venezuela's patience and tolerance with US attacks.

He said that if the United States doesn´t need Venezuelan oil they should not buy it, but declared Venezuela was willing to supply US

society.

The diplomat added that President George W. Bush' administration has grown more dangerous as it nears the end of its term, and said Bush´ upcoming South American tour is meant to be divisive, but predicted massive popular response.

He added that Venezuela has already approved the new US ambassador, and expects he comes in peace and with respect for its sovereignty.
