Cheney Surprised by Libby's Account

By PETE YOST

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney seemed surprised in 2003 when told where his chief of staff had learned the identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame.

``From me?'' Cheney asked, tilting his head, according to the grand jury testimony of the aide, I. Lewis ``Scooter'' Libby, who is on trial on charges of perjury, obstruction and lying to the FBI.

Libby's account of the conversation came near the end of nearly eight hours of audiotapes of his 2004 grand jury testimony that prosecutors finished playing at his trial Wednesday.

Libby describes finding in his own handwritten notes a reference to Cheney saying in mid-June 2003 that the wife of war critic Joseph Wilson worked at the CIA. The reference by Cheney was more than a month before Plame was outed in a newspaper column.

31. What, if anything, can be done to curtail *'s pardon capability?
Can congress pass legislation to prevent bush from pardoning most of his criminal admininstation. They set out to loot the U.S. Treasury...and they've killed our treasure---our finest young men and women. Not one of them should get off. We owe futre generations a full accounting and punishment for the outrageous crimes that have been committed. They're all traitors in this administration.

3. I'm concerned that the people running this country have such bad memories.
Time for Dr. McCoy to relieve them of command.

13. Well, of course.
But even if one were so naive as to accept their bogus stories at face value, they still don't come off looking competent enough to run a country. I think there's plenty of evidence out there to impeach them on purely on gross incompetence, never mind all of the conspiracy theories swirling around every disaster over which they have presided.

If'n it's good enough for Reagan, I reckon they think it'll work again. The tragedy is that it might.

5. Cheney news conference:
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 04:46 PM by Dhalgren
VP: Ladies and gentlemen I would like to announce that the FBI has just issued a nation-wide APB to be on the look-out for the apprehension of me. I have been placed on the FBIs "10 most wanted list" and federal agents are working around the clock to find me, apprehend me, and bring me to justice. The FBI wants to let it be known that caution should be used by anyone coming into contact with me. I am to be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone seeing me or who has any information related to me should contact the FBI or local law enforcement immediately. I'll take some of your questions now...

14. I'm sure cheney is furious that he can't just announce "this is old news" through Tony Snow and make
it all just disappear down the memory hole.

Fortunately for us, the criminal justice system gathers, remembers, and disseminates EVERYTHING about a crime.

16. Well this says why Libby doesn't wanna just say, 'ok Cheney told me'
instead of well, Tim Russert.

Because that'd kinda get Cheney in hot water then wouldn't it.

Think Dick (Treason) Cheney will pay?

I bet Bush will pardon him.

20. Didn't I see this on an episode of the Sopranos, 4th season?
Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 06:45 PM by tom_paine
Carmine Lupertazzi: We've got a big problem, kid. I'm telling John to back off, but he's not listening.

Tony Soprano: Well, what are you going to about it?

Carmine Lupertazzi: Me? Nothin'.

(silent pause)

Tony Soprano: Are you saying what I think you're saying?

Carmine Lupertazzi: I ain't sayin' nothin'. OK then, I'll talk to you later.

(silent pause)

(Later in the Show)

Tony Soprano: We're gonna whack Johnny. Carmine gave me the OK.

==============================================================================

I have absolutely no doubt that Cheney was and IS the Carmine Lupertazzi of the Bush Crime Family.
