The Michigan Federation of Young Republicans’ Web site calls group Chairman Michael Flory “one of the rising stars of GOP politics in America.”

Investigators in Cleveland believe the 32-year-old lawyer is also a rapist.

Cleveland detectives have been investigating a 21-year-old woman’s claim that Flory took sexual advantage of her last July 8 while the two were in town for the National Federation of Young Republicans annual convention.

Court records indicate Cuyahoga County prosecutors recently presented a case against Flory to a grand jury, which hasn’t yet finalized any action. Several law-enforcement sources said they expect an indictment Wednesday on multiple charges, including rape and kidnapping.

“He has made my life a living hell,” the young woman said in a brief interview Tuesday.

When I was in University I had quite a few episodes with the Young Republicans. We would hold silent protest against the Contras in Nicaragua/Honduras and they would give us a bunch of crap. They were so stupid and had no idea as to what they were talking about when confronted with the issues. To me it seemed more like a social club than a political group. Since University I have always, and always will, harbor a great dislike for the young Repukicans.

When I encountered the young republicans that was my impression of them, although my group of friends dedicated to tormenting frat and sorority types probably did a hell of alot more to them than they ever did to us.

At the time I suspected it was nothing more than a scam to get funding out of the then very well funded local republican machine for keeping themselves in booze and blow, there seemed to be nothing political about them.

Michael A. Flory, 32, of Jackson, Mich., faces charges of rape, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, gross sexual imposition and witness intimidation.

Police and prosecutors say he escorted a drunken 21-year-old colleague to her hotel room after an evening of partying in the Warehouse District. He attacked her when she was feeling sick and on the verge of passing out, she told police.

Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Carol Skutnik described Flory as a mentor to the woman, who is 11 years his junior, and said their relationship was "almost a parent-child, student-teacher thing."

The intimidation counts accuse Flory of harassing the alleged victim, Skutnik said. "There were efforts made to contact her, to cut her off at the pass to avoid going through with prosecution," Skutnik said.
