AP: Iran Said to Assemble Two Uranium Units
Iran Said to Assemble Two Uranium Units
By GEORGE JAHN
Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Shrugging off the threat of tougher U.N. sanctions, Iran has set up more than 300 centrifuges in two uranium enrichment units at its underground Natanz complex, diplomats and officials said Monday.

The move potentially opens the way for larger scale enrichment that could be used to create nuclear warheads. Iranian leaders have repeatedly said the Natanz underground hall would house first 3,000 centrifuges and ultimately 54,000 machines.

It also poses a direct challenge to the Security Council, which late last month imposed limited sanctions targeting programs and individuals linked to Tehran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs - and warned of stricter penalties within 60 days unless Iran freezes enrichment.

Speaking separately - and demanding anonymity because their information was confidential - a diplomat accredited to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency and a U.S. official said that two "cascades" of 164 centrifuges each had been set up in recent days.

2. Pure bullshit.
They are bluffing to draw us into another quagmire, which would make Iraq seem like recess @ daycare.

Saddam did it, and they learned that Bushco can easily be goaded into war, by just telling him what he already belives, facts be damned.

We are suckers if we fall for this bullshit again.

And I don't find this news especially unbelievable either.

5. Not really
Chernobyl was the result of stupidity, not sabotage or act of war.

(OTOH, I suppose you could say the same about Iraq and Afghanistan too ...)

6. The Russians are pretty smart actually and they still had a catastrophic meltdown
Whose to say the Iranians are any brighter? My guess is, they're getting a lot of tutelage from the Russians themselves. They're going to be as much of a danger to themselves as anyone else.

7. "Russians" in general are pretty smart ...
... but the people involved in the run-up to that event were anything but!

Of course, one way to encourage errors is to pressure the people involved
so that normal (expensive, time-consuming) safety operations are skipped
in the rush to get a result before some bastard bombs you ...

The smart way to do this is to HELP the Iranians get their nuclear POWER
industry up and running a.s.a.p. then let IAEA monitor them in the same
way as they monitor other civilised countries advanced enough to have
nuclear facilities (excepting the US and Israel of course).

12. Great post.
That would be the sane thing to do... but then what would you use as a pretext for an unnecessary war? Remember, "unending war" is not a bug, but a feature.

War profiteering should be punishable by life in prison and seizure of assets.

24. Yes, I imagine the acid sting of truth might hurt you too much.
Hence your ability to fall for the most obvious of bullshit anonymous lies painting Iran as a threat that you support nuking.

25. No, it's more like the acrid stench of bullshit that offends me too much.
I wasn't aware that I had declared my support for nuking Iran for instance. Your inability to support that statement will constitute proof that you are full of lies and opinions but empty of truthful facts.

"Hence your ability to fall for the most obvious of bullshit anonymous lies painting Iran as a threat..."
Are you saying that Iran doesn't have an underground nuclear enrichment facility capable of supporting thousands of Uranium gas centrifuges?

9. I do not believe one word of this.
What I do believe is that President Peter Pan and his Israeli buddies are gonna nuke Iran and then they will get the shock of their lives when Israel is counternuked and Jesus pulls a no-show.
