Demonstrators take advantage of Super Bowl
A host of unions and local activist groups took advantage of the national media spotlight on today's Super Bowl to support free speech and protest low wages and the shortage of affordable housing in Miami.

Hundreds of police officers wielding picket signs and chanting slogans demanding better pay marched from Watson Island, where NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was having a private party, to another NFL event in downtown Miami.

The protest was staged the same day the Fraternal Order of Police, in the middle of a monthslong contract negotiation with the city, took out a quarter-page advertisement in The Miami Herald. They welcomed visitors to the city but warned that ``we find ourselves understaffed, overworked, and unable to hire and retain police officers.''
. . .

Today, Democracy for America Miami and Miami Veterans for Peace hired a pilot to fly an aerial banner near Dolphin Stadium hours before the game to lodge its anti-war message. The ''Bring Our Troops Home Now'' banner will be displayed between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

1. I don't know how you can resonate
with people who are willing to pay $3000 for a ticket to watch a football game. But then again, I am not a communications person. I'm not saying it's a waste either. I just don't know.

5. Didn't know Miami had a law enforcement problem.
Usually it's the "Police brutality" headline grabbing stories by the MSM that make national news.

7. Don't you think one might be due to the other?
When there's a shortage, you hang on to what you have even if that's "a bit tarnished". There's a huge disincentive to properly deal with and get rid of the "overenthusiastic, opinionated, biased, and just plain stupid" who's actions drive the headlines and lawsuits.
