Bush offers Democrats olive branch on Iraq war
when he starts to pull back on the war in Iraq--------that would be maybe an olive branch. Stupid headline!

Bush offers Democrats olive branch on Iraq war

WASHINGTON (AFP) - A day after US intelligence painted a grim picture of
President George W. Bush's plan for
Iraq, Bush asked Democrats for bipartisan cooperation to end the war.

Gone was Bush's insistence upon being "the decider" on Iraq policy as he addressed Democrats of the House of Representatives which, like the Senate, is under Democratic control largely thanks to voter impatience with Bush's wartime performance.

..........

"I listened to many members here. I listened to members of my own party. I listened to the military and came up with a plan that I genuinely believe has the best chance of succeeding," he told the Democrats meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia, south of Washington.

However, Bush did not mention the centerpiece of his new war plan: the addition of 21,500 new troops to US forces in Iraq. Most Democrats and even some members of Bush's Republican Party appear poised to adopt a non-binding resolution next week opposing the troop "surge."

4. And our "leaders" gave him a platform and sat there politely listening
to that bullshit.

The next time Bush wants to share his views on the Iraq Invasion, let him tell it to the judges at the World Court in the Hague at his war crimes trial.

5. No matter what he says
one only has to look at what he does to see just how disingenuous his words are. All this means is "I'll pretend to listen and do it my way no matter what you say or do."

Bush never listened, ever. He'd like to not have to deal with the embarrassment of the non-binding resolution. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, he'll have to deal with a binding one - like the cutting of funding.

Bush only cares about looking good. So he'll make nice for 5 minutes, then have his henchmen complain that the Democrats aren't cooperating in the spirit of bipartisanship that is so important to him. :eyes: Why anyone would believe anything he says is beyond me.

24. Why haven't the impeachment proceedings started yet?
Clinton lied to protect a private family matter and was immediately impeached by the House of Representatives. Bush lie cost the country countless dead and Billions of $'s and he goes before the majority and cracks jokes... What country am I in?

7. Fool Me Once . . .
If ANYONE in the Democratic leadership trusts the slightest utterance coming from that phony piece of crap's mouth . . . they deserve what they get.

I can't believe anyone on the Democratic side is even considering Chimpie's latest lies, other than as political window dressing.

Come, little subpoena. Come this way, honey.

8. What a ridiculous headline
Bush has always used the tactic of offering an olive branch in one hand and a switch blade in the other for the fool who reaches out and takes it. "Can't get fooled again," you once said, Mr. Bush. It's the only true thing you ever said.

19. I know. It's very curious.
There are Republicans threatening to fillibuster the non-binding resolution. What's that about? This seems to have more meaning than we would assume.

25. It's highly symbolic
It will be the first time that Congress has officially told Bush they don't like what he's doing in Iraq. Granted it has no weight but it sets the tone and precedent. If Congress pushes this through, they will be able to go for more, like actually doing something.

26. The stupid puppet has a finger on the red button, poised over Iran. They
need to keep this monster in their sights--and not let Cheney be his only chum. That's my read on Dem/Chimp lovefest. Far be it from me to be the apologist for Diebold/ES&S-(s)elected War/Corporate Democrats (some of them), or for any of the multi-millionaires in Congress, Democratic though they may be. I've blistered them often enough. But I think we've got a real touchy situation here, and I think we should give them some benefit of the doubt, with the end of all life on earth as one possible outcome of the Bush-Cheney madness on Iran.*

I would just slow the heck down on this one--and think about the difficulties of removing that finger from that button. There is no one who would more like to see that happen than me. But how?

Possibly the best way to go about it is exactly what they're doing--separating Bush from Cheney, giving Bush something of a "comfort zone," and waiting for the Fitzgerald indictment of Cheney for heading the conspiracy that destroyed the CIA's entire WMD counter-proliferation network. I think it could be coming, and, if not, by the conclusion of the Libby trail, the case against Cheney will be overwhelming (it's almost there already) and Fitzgerald may defer to Congress--let them take it from there. Without Cheney, Bush can't tie his shoes, let alone command a war. He will be minus his puppetmaster, and succumbing to ego-fantasies about his "legacy." And meanwhile, the replacement VP will be an issue.

I don't have a crystal ball. So I can't be sure. And I'm not saying "don't press them on impeachment" for both of these criminals, nor relax pressure in any way on ending the war and preventing its expansion to Iran. But I wouldn't just trash our reps, who have been in office only one month, and are immediately faced with a) the biggest Constitutional crisis in our history, and b) an out-of-control executive who is seriously saber-rattling against yet another country (and one that has done absolutely nothing to deserve bombing or invasion); and c) horrendous lack of clarity on who is in charge. The Middle East is a tinderbox. And so is Washington DC, in my opinion.
