Dean may step up campaign plan
Unexpectedly strong fund-raising probably will prompt Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean to expand his campaign into at least three states beyond Iowa and New Hampshire at least a month ahead of schedule, his campaign manager said yesterday.

The $7.5 million that Dean raised in the past three months also will allow what has been a shoestring campaign to add more regional political operatives and a second aide to accompany the former Vermont governor as he hopscotches across the country, campaign manager Joe Trippi said in a telephone interview in advance of a two-day meeting Dean and his staff are starting today in Burlington, Vt.

''We have a lot more mobility and flexibility in our plan now,'' Trippi said. ''We're not changing what we are going to do, but we're probably going to be able to do it earlier than we thought.''

snip...........

While the campaign had considered adding staff in the early-voting states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Oklahoma around Oct. 1, Trippi said, those hires are more likely to occur Aug. 1 or Sept. 1. In addition, the Dean campaign plans to add a staff member to handle the media on campaign trips, a task that had been largely neglected.

2. Hmmm
Kerry aides say that because of President Bush's fund-raising prowess and because of their candidate's steadiness in building his campaign, they have a better chance than Dean of emerging not only as the Democratic nominee, but also the most credible challenger to the Republican incumbent.

Too bad they don't have the sizzle and the message to go with their self-evaluation, isn't it? I mean, if it were just a money contest, we wouldn't have to bother with campaigning or voting, would we?

Sorry, John, that's not good enough. Dean is just as electable if not more so.

3. Unlike McCain, Hart, and Brown
Dean has a great campaign strategy bonded with a message that resonates with voters. McCain didn't have the organization to seize upon the pent up anger in voters and channel that into an effective and efficient campaign weapon. Dean does.

I really admire Dean and Trippi for firing up voters and channeling that anger and energy into hope and constructive non-violent change via his Meetups and blogs.

Go Dean!

5. Here in California, we vote in March.
That's pretty early. I know there are a lot of local level activists who would be receptive to his message. California should be a big effort of all the candidates. We're early, and the largest "prize."

6. I hope they don't get too ambitious and shoot their wad early
There is still a lot of time and I'm glad they are doing well in the fund raising but I hope they don't count too many chickens before they hatch. That said it can only help their fund raising to expand their message to other states. So I guess this is a contradictory post. Sometimes I don't know what the hell I'm saying. :-)
