Black Caucus Requests Katrina Committee

Jan 30, 2:11 PM (ET)

By BEN EVANS

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Congressional Black Caucus has asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to form a new committee on Hurricane Katrina to focus more urgently on rebuilding the Gulf Coast, particularly New Orleans.

"The Bush administration has turned its back on our fellow Americans, the victims of the greatest disaster on American soil in our generation," CBC Chairwoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., wrote in a letter to Pelosi. "How can we talk about reconstruction abroad when we cannot help our fellow Americans at home?"

Kilpatrick blasted President Bush for not mentioning Katrina in his State of the Union address last week and said forming a select House committee on the issue "offers the best hope for development."

A Pelosi spokesman, Drew Hammill, said Tuesday he had not seen the letter but that the office would look closely at the request.

The Democrats have been very busy since taking control of both houses.

4. K&R
The non-response to Hurricane Katrina, and the willingness of the Bush administration to allow American citizens to die while he played guitar and ate cake is one of the most disgusting things I've seen, and under Bush just about everything that has happened is disgusting.

We watched on TV, as our fellow citizens died waiting for help. And Bush wants us to think he can "protect" us from terrorists? He can't even protect us from a storm we knew was coming days in advance. His betrayal of the victims of Katrina is criminal.

Hell, St. Laura of the Perpetual Xanax couldn't even get the hurricane's name right. She referred to it as Hurricane Corrina.
