Saddam capture 'boost for Bush' BBC News

Political observers in the US say the capture of Saddam Hussein could boost President George Bush's chances of re-election next year.
The president's popularity has been dented in recent months as attacks on United States troops in Iraq increase.

But a poll carried out after the arrest showed a big leap in confidence in Mr Bush's handling of the situation........

........The poll of 506 adults for The Washington Post-ABC News on Sunday showed 58% approved of Mr Bush's handling of the Iraq crisis, with 38% disapproving.

A month ago, respondents split evenly, with 48% approving and the same number disapproving.

... that these people would realize the ephemeral nature of such events. It will boost Bush's standing in the polls for about 15 minutes, give or take a day or two. By next November the average voter will be saying "Saddam who?"

Bush just played his hand, he has one more ace in the hole (osama) but he'll be much more difficult to deliver.
