BBC: Dutch Iraqi suspect flown to US

Dutch Iraqi suspect flown to US

Dutch authorities say an Iraqi-born Dutch citizen, suspected of plotting attacks
on American forces in Iraq, has been extradited to the United States.

Wesam al-Delaema was put on a plane and flown to an undisclosed location
in the US after losing his final appeal against extradition in December.

He is set to become the first suspect tried in a US court for allegedly plotting
attacks on US forces in Iraq.

Mr Delaema denies charges of "possessing a destructive device".

1. I'm sure that he will be "coercively interrogated" (Tortured) until he confesses
to many horrible, and Top Secret, planning of atrocities against either The British or the USA Empires. :eyes:

3. IIRC, the Dutch government has a lot of issues with Muslims.
They seem somewhat rightwing in that regard.

suspected of terrorism, so it's off to GIT-MO. And you know, attacking anyone, even US Soldiers, by our standards is TERRA!

When tortured, this guy will cop to anything. Oh, perhaps the Feds can tie this dangerous man to that supposedly budding Al Quaida cell in Miami? You know, the one composed of Homeless Muslims who sold knock-off cologne and exercised in a warehouse. :eyes:

5. Not the 'usual' suspect, but Dutch court says he can be extradited to the US
by RN Security and Defence editor Hans de Vreij*

12-12-2005

A court in Rotterdam gave the green light on Monday for the extradition to the United States of Wesam al Delaema, who was arrested in May this year and faces charges in the US for his alleged involvement in the armed insurgency taking place in Iraq.

If he is indeed handed over to the American authorities - and this depends on the outcome of an appeal - Wesam al Delaema would be the first ever foreigner to stand trial in the US itself on charges relating to terrorist activities in Iraq. Prior to the Rotterdam court ruling, the Dutch authorities obtained the assurance that he will not face the death penalty in the US and that it may be possible for him to serve an eventual prison term in the Netherlands.

The 'sociable' suspect
Of all the terrorism suspects known to have been detained in the Netherlands thus far, Wesam al-Delaema probably has the most 'innocent' background. Even if he is indeed guilty of the charges brought against him in the US, his personal profile is very different to that of most other terrorist suspects. A hairdresser who later became a car mechanic, he is known to have been a well-integrated member of the community in his hometown of Amersfoort, with many ethnic Dutch people among his friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed going out and even appeared as a contestant on a popular Dutch TV quiz show in February 2003. All in all, he's said to have a sociable, somewhat exhibitionistic personality.

6. Ah yes, we are for the Dutch, what Egypt is for us.
Why can't the Bush Cabal see all the shame they are bringing upon our country, who the world once respected.

7. Obviously guilty. A little application of American justice, and

he'll confess to all.

8. Terror Suspect Pleads Not Guilty (Guardian)
... As part of the extradition agreement with the Netherlands, Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd said that al-Delaema will be tried in a federal court - not by a military commission such as those set up for terror suspects being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The U.S. will also not oppose al-Delaema serving his sentence in a Dutch prison if he is convicted, Boyd said.

Al-Delaema's attorney, Victor Koppe, had argued that he feared al-Delaema could be tortured by U.S. authorities and said the U.S. legal system couldn't be trusted.

Al-Delaema traveled to Iraq after the U.S.-led invasion. Evidence against him includes a videotape he filmed of a group called ``Warriors of Fallujah'' preparing a roadside bomb, which was widely shown on Arabic TV stations. The tape was seized by police who raided al-Delaema's house in the Dutch city of Amersfoort in May 2005 following a tip from U.S. authorities.

In extradition hearings in the Netherlands, al-Delaema argued that he was forced to make the video after being kidnapped and beaten. He said he feared being beheaded if he resisted ...
