3. Why not gloat when you have absolutely nothing to gloat about
The US had no right to capture Saddam;
has no right bringing him to the world court.
His capture will do nothing to quell the violence in Iraq
and will have no effect whatever on the war on 'terrorism'
(a fiction if ever there was one).

2. Is he holding the news conference
hoping to get more bounce out of Saddam?

40 years ago, my father told me a joke about a politician who came to a voter's house asking for his vote. The politician listed the things he had done for the voter. The voter looked at the politician and said, "I know you did those things. But what have you done for me lately?"

I think Bush held off till now really going after Saddam to get more political benefit. I expect the trial to take place and then an execution in late October. It's all about politics.

what "HE" thinks ought to happen to Saddam, because it's up to the Iraqi people, but he repeated "...I won't say what I think should happen to this brutal dictator who gassed and tortured his own people."

Now he's rambling on about "Iraq transforming the region in a positive way (straight PNAC crap).

Now Bush says "Good Riddance to Mr. Saddam....you dug your hole and you crawled in it.." He kept snuffing his Chimp snarf. Now saying he doesn't trust Saddam and he isn't going to change his ways and the Iraqi system to work so all the atrocities come out."

& German. He says it's in our interest to work with them and going on praising Germany and saying they had a "disagreement" about Iraq. He says they differed on how to accomplish things after 9/11.

Now he says Baker going to encourage them to help with debt relief. Now he wants the French and Germans to work on Iran. He's threatening Iran but saying they were with him.

28. Reporter saying no WMD found so was your plan Democratization in
Iraq. He stumbles while he thinks up a lie to tell. He does his snarky laugh and says "you got me" to reporter. He's now saying it was 9/11 that changed it and he began to "access threats." He's kind of leading that he's admitting that PNAC decided it not WMD! He's going on about "Evil Saddam" again, defiant, deceiver, murdered his on people, ignored UN resolutions and he says UN agreed Saddam was a threat. He's backtraking on WMD, mentioning David Kay's inspections trying to trump up that Saddam had something.

99. Not according to the Constitution
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Article II, Section 1

A silly difference some may say, Constitution vs country, but I happen to think if he defended the first the second would follow.

:wtf: This is a farking campaign speech pure and simple. His fucking attempt to lure the freeper death crowd with his snide comment "I know how I would deal with Saddam, but hey it's up to the Iraqi people" was quite simply GROSS.

Pandering to the kill Saddam crowd and then acting coy and cutesy like what he didn't say was intentional. BARF.

86. Still Here In The ME And Most Thought This Was A BS PR Stunt
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 12:24 PM by Mary T
Nobody here takes Bush seriously. This isn't out of love for Saddam but out of loathing for "The Bush" as they are wont to call him.

Moving from Oman to the much more upscale digs of UAE (Abu Dhabi) next month. But I will still be calling it like I see where Bush is concerned. A great deal of Omanis now refer to Bush as the Fuckwittage after my 20 months here.

A tall attractive blonde with a potty mouth and a sincere conscience has won the hearts and minds of many here in the ME.

Thanks for the love and I :loveya: too.

22. Now he's into confrontational, quiet, thoughtful Chimp saying
PNAC talking points over and over and over and over. He's saying that Saddam is "through." People don't have to hold back their sentiments for living in a free society. He's now talking about Saddam being a murderer and torturer, and he ruled by fear. He says he will follow his objectives to make America more free. People won't agree with him, but he's going to keep making the decisions. He looks forward to making his case to the American people. He says Press is "jumping the gun" about the election. He takes his job seriously. He will politically debate at press conferences next year.

He says he doesn't bother with politics but he wants it to be a secure and better country.

62. They tried! The weapons inspections took place...
...and, for the most part, they were effective - we have since found that out. 460 dead US servicemen later, we still haven't found WMD's.

Sounds like the UN did their job without one loss of life.

BTW - Welcome to DU :hi:

63. UN had enforced the resolutions
WMDs were destroyed, nuclear sites sealed. Nothing left of that stuff, nothing found even after many months of search and interrogation.

How can you enforce disarmament when these arms have already been destroyed? Iraq repeatedly told they had complied, inspectors found nothing, but it was the U.S. and their allies that insisted that Iraq had violated regulations and needed an invasion. Remember?

53. That IS total BS!!!
This adminstration quashed every attempt by the State department to make things work thru the UN (including what they must've done to Colin Powell to make him do a 180 on the WMD issue - one minute, he's at odds with the PNACkers in regards to Iraq and weapons inspections, the next minute, he's their biggest whore).

They wanted war so bad, they could taste it!

Nixon gradually encircled himself in`secrecy and absolutism until his fears and manias got the best of him. It's interesting the way he projects onto Saddam "He rules by fear."

87. Because it's not even evident the Iraqis did it
The situation in Halabja is not as clear as it is always stressed.

Halabja was between the front lines of the Iraq-Iran war, both sides using chemical weapons. People in Halabja most likely died from choking agents, the kind of stuff Iran used at that time. Iraq preferred mustard gas. However, looks like the Kurdish population in Halabja was not deemed worthy of consideration.

There are later reports on gassed Kurds and destroyed villages. But who cared what NATO member and US alley Turkey did to them in a civil war that cost about 30.000 lives? Big silence on this, too.

92. It's true about Johnson before he resigned
Weird about Bush. There is obviously a part of him that craves the attention and power, but I've always had this feeling -- and he's even hinted at it a few times -- that he hates being president and would rather be back in Texas playing Gameboy and watching baseball on TV. He's just the opposite of Clinton who loved being POTUS, especially the endless policy meetings and deal making. He has as little vision as his father. What does he come up with today for the economy?: easing malpractice insurance and tort reform. Wow. Big ideas?

In Bush's victory, there must be a certain emptiness too. Much of his personal mission in Iraq -- and perhaps a reason for seeking the presidency -- had to do with revenging his family honor. And now that motivation is gone.

80. Yes, dear. The tax cuts were a very bad thing.
George gave away the wealth of the United States to already wealthy corporate contributors, the people who do NOT have sons or daughters in uniform or in Iraq.

That's why your property taxes are going up, all your state and federal fees are increasing, and the sales tax is thru the roof.

So Ken Lay can have another multimillion dollar mansion.

Basically, selfish won. The answer to "Am I my brother's keeper?" in the BushCo administration is "Absolutely not!"

As a recovering alchy, I recognize his speech patterns...and even when you're drunk or stoned, you can often concenrate on things that interest you.

If this is what Bush looks and acts like when he's "winning" then he's in major trouble.

71. He seems to become more drunk as the "press conference"
goes on, now what would cause that?

He went to bed early but complained about being awakened at 5:15? How much sleep does he need, he must have needed to sleep a big one off.

Chimp realized how bad he was starting to slurr because he ended the conference.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a free press to look into these things?

96. Such a hypocrite
At one point he chastised a reporter for "prejudging". In the next sentence * talked about SH as a murderer. Who's doing the prejudging???

This was a very poor performance by the BoyGeorge. Slurring, stammering, and stuttering.

I seriously wonder if the pauses and "umm"s were used to kill time waiting for the answers to be fed to him through an earpiece.

101. BINGO! He was being fed the answers!
That is the answer! He had these loooonnnngg pauses, which I thought was just to kill time, so they could say the "press conference" lasted longer than it did. But that wasn't it at all.

The only problem with the theory is that the answers sucked so badly. Maybe he tried to make them his own.

When Bush said he had a "strong dollar policy," my conservative friend's automatic reflex was, "What a liar!"

The dollar is at an all time low against the euro. It's laughable that Bush could call it "strong."

At least he admits that he was the reason we have such a huge national debt: recession, which he caused, the war with Iraq, which he started, and tax breaks, which he has fought for every year and will the next.

That was, by far, his worst press conference. If it gets any worse, he'll have to be carried out on a stretcher.

I enjoyed Bush's silence when the reporters started laughing at him. I would have loved to see the chimp's expression.
