Karzai: Bin Laden could be next
(CNN) -- The capture of Saddam Hussein shows terrorists like Osama bin Laden that they will be found and stopped, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has said.

"Fugitives, criminals cannot hide forever, and Saddam Hussein's capture proved that," Karzai told CNN on Monday.

Referring to the leader of the al Qaeda terror group, he added: "Sooner or later, Osama and Mullah Omar will also be found," he said.

1. Let's hope he's right...
For his peoples' sake, and ours. And "sooner, not later", as Clinton used to say.

B-)

3. When THAT happens, we can throw in the towel
and regroup for 2008.

Or leave the country. Whichever.

4. A major difference in finding SH vs Osama
A large number of Iraqis hate Saddam. I think it is safe to say he was ratted out. It even appears that he was a prisoner in that "spider cave", and someone was negotiating for the ransom money which the US intelligence used to figure out where they were stashing him and moved in.

Osama on the other hand is widely loved, and it is doubtful that he will be turned over. It will be pure luck if our intelligence stumbles over his trail and manages to close in on him.

I doubt that Saddam was still able to control financial assets and was running out of money he needed to bribe people with.

Since Osama is loved by his followers, his money is still flowing. Haven't heard much of anything for a couple of years about how the US is shutting down Osama's finances, most likely because the money is still flowing from Saudi Arabia and this administration won't touch that.

5. Yes, Osama is revered by his followers
Saddam was not. Too many enemies.

They will protect Osama forever.

7. Osama may well be found BUT
that will not stop terrorism on a global scale. It may even fuel it whether OBL is taken alive or "found" dead.

Alive, he has to be tried, and given a chance to defend himself.

Dead, he is a martyr.

At any rate, he probably isn't all that useful to the terrorists as anything but a symbol, what with being isolated in Tora Bora or Bingo Bango or whereever it is our guys can't find him.

As to terrorism, I watched the videos of "Iron Hammer" and the rest, with all those men dragged out of their houses with bags over their heads and their wrists tywrapped together. I particularly watched the women and the boys standing there watching and it occurred to me that I could probably pick out which one of those kids would next be seen holding an RPG or an AK-47. The cycle of violence feeds on itself.

This "war on terror" will never end unless we get someone in charge who understands it, and is willing to take the steps necessary to smooth the waters instead of roiling them further.

9. Give it up, Hamid...
look, I know Hillary dropped in for a visit and all, but face, the BFEE is tired of you and your lambs-wool hat.
Maybe if OBL and ohmar are in Syria, because that's our next stop on the PNAC World Tour of Conquest. Otrherwise, don't hold your breath...
