VP Dick Cheney's Achilles' heel: lesbian chat
VP Dick Cheney's Achilles' heel, lesbian chat

By Stone Martindale Jan 25, 2007, 14:18 GMT

Vice President Dick Cheney would prefer you not bring up any references of his pregnant daughter Mary, an out lesbian. When asked directly by CNN's Wolf Blitzer what he thought of critical conservatives (Republican bread and butter) statements questioning her decision to have a child, he had a cow on the air.

Cheney had a real situation in Blitzer's "Situation Room" after host Blitzer congratulated the Vice President on the impending birth of his sixth grandchild, then segued right for the jugular, adding that there are some conservative groups who are critical of Mary's pregnancy.

Blitzer then read a statement from Focus on the Family, a social-conservative group that believes it's not best for a child to be raised by gay parents, like Mary Cheney and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe.

"Mary Cheney's pregnancy raises the question of what's best for children. Just because it's possible to conceive a child outside of the relationship of a married mother and father, doesn't mean it's best for the child." Cheney would not respond directly to the comment but did seem to seethe, reports TMZ.com. "I'm delighted -- I'm delighted I'm about to have a sixth grandchild, Wolf, and obviously think the world of both of my daughters and all of my grandchildren."

Before Blitzer could say a word, Cheney snipped, "And I think, frankly, you're out of line with that question."

1. And cheney added, "But's okay if you ask a Dem about that."
Okay, he didn't really say that, but I bet he wouldn't be opposed to the concept.

2. he doesn't like what Dobsons group says so he attacks Blitzer???

3. Golly Dick
Can you afford to alienate your base like that? Isn't Focus on the Family one of the mainstays of the Bush administration? Why is a question based on their literature "out of line"? Are you the Vice President for all of the people, or just the ones who say things you happen to like?

I'm sure that Blitzer really pinned him down, right? He didn't just meekly get off the question, mumble an apology or some crapulous pleasantry and move on, right? I mean, Blitzer gets paid a lot of money to be a hard-hitting journalist, doesn't he? Bulldog tenacity and all that, right?

Right?

7. I saw bits and pieces, but I thought Wolfe pinned him down on more
than his daughter's pregnancy. The sparks were flying and Blitzer should be happy that looks don't kill. Give him credit...he didn't back down. I was surprised.

On the daughter's pregnancy...I can see both sides of the situation. I would probably resent the question, but they are the ones who have brought it to the surface, and it's their supporters who are doing the questioning. Jump them, rather than trying to kill the messenger. Cheney's reaction was probably compounded by the fact that the administration is being jumped on from all sides.

I'm lovin' every minute of it, too.

10. One's child comes out--and one has professed homophobia.

One has quite a problem, eh? IMO, that's why the Cheney pregnancy saga may well be a turning point in our mixed up society. Stay tuned....

16. Great to see a dad stand up for his daughter
After using his daughters to run smear campaigns, the least he could do is say one word to defend his daughter.

17. Oh he believes
His agenda is continuing to unfold and until congress puts a financial stop to his doings, he and the shrub will continue to pursue their reign of terror. They have come from generations of rapers and pilagers , their fortunes will be invested for their great grand children. That is all Cheney has got and shrub is going to get his place in a family full of war profiteering scoundrels. If they have to play rough to get what they want, they can. Including assasinating Kennedy by GHB, allowing a terrorist attack, or having 2 worthless wars in the same country. And 34% of us amurikans
think it is a good thang. Morans

22. It's funny that Cheney thinks it's "out of line" for being asked
about his lesbian daughter, but it's not out of line for him to bomb a sovereign country and kill hundreds of thousands of people, including 3,000 United States soldiers.
