Seven killed in Baghdad bombings
Edited on Thu Jan-25-07 04:56 AM by maddezmom
BAGHDAD (AFP) - Seven people have been killed in two bombings in Baghdad, in the latest in a wave of attacks against markets or shopping areas in the violence-wracked Iraqi capital.

Insurgents planted a motorcycle bomb in Shorja market -- Baghdad's oldest -- killing four people and wounding 20, security officials said Thursday.

The blast ripped through the market on the east side of the Tigris river in central Baghdad at around 11:00 am (0800 GMT).

"The bomb was strapped to a motorcycle which was parked on one side of the road that runs through the market," which has been a regular target of insurgents in the past year, a security official said.

1. I think it is time we moved the troops out to do this
Set up camps around the country to help the rest of the people who will pour out in the blood bath that is coming. Over a 1000 years these groups have been fighting each other and it is going to get really bad. Power drills will be in full swing I think. A civil war with religion as the base has been around a long time. The Middle Ages in the Middle East are back. Bush has put the stick into the ant hill, and sad days are ahead for any one in that country even Americans.

Huge Explosion Rocks Central Baghdad

Thursday January 25, 2007 2:01 PM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A huge explosion rocked central Baghdad just before sunset
Thursday, sending a massive plume of black smoke into the air along the east bank
of the Tigris River. The blast occurred shortly after two heavy mortar shells
slammed into the heavily fortified Green Zone.

The public address system inside the zone, where the U.S. Embassy is located, could
be heard warning in English that people should take cover, "this is not a drill."

Heavy gunfire rang out throughout the center of the city after the explosion thundered
across the city and was especially heavy in the Karrada district. Sirens on emergency
vehicles wailed through the region.

Initial reports from police said two people were killed in the explosion.
