Morales Calls to Act against Poverty
Morales Calls to Act against Poverty

La Paz, Jan 23 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales called to eradicate poverty in the continent through vehicles such as the Andean Community of Nations and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).

The statesman announced he will serve as chairman pro tempore in an upcoming CAN meeting in La Paz that will address this issue, and noted CAN´s strengthening with the addition of Ecuador since the election of Rafael Correa.

Morales recalled that at the recent MERCOSUR Summit the heads of State took note that anti-neoliberal, anti-imperialist and anti-colonial countries like Venezuela, Argentina and Cuba lead economic growth in the continent. Cuba's growth in 2006 was 12.6 percent and 11.5 percent in 2005.

While their achievements have been were lauded by institutions such as the Economic Commission for Latin America, those that received millions in US funds are economically stalled and have a fiscal deficit.

On the domestic agenda he said he has submitted some 34 socio-economic programs for Cabinet consideration and planned to set up the National Coordinator for a Change today, to monitor key official programs.
