2. Another opportunity to see Gore in the spotlight where he belongs!
I have two copies of the DVD and have been passing them out to friends to watch - some people's eyes have really been opened.

6. Hey, wouldn't that be a memorable Oscar acceptance speech?
Thank you for this Oscar and I am announcing tonight that I'm running for President in 2008 so that I can implement the very necessary changes that I spoke of in this film.

8. Haha, he wouldn't bogart the spotlight from the film-makers like that.
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 09:21 AM by crispini
Anyway, I believe Best Documentary is accepted by the producers, which he was not. But shit, it would be cool, wouldn't it? I'm watching anyway. When is it? I need to mark my calendar.

Edited to add: Click on the links in my sig, Gore fans! :D

20. That's my dream too!
But I wonder if the Oscars would hate it, because then suddenly the best picture would be an afterthought, and everyone would be going to places like here instead of waiting for the show to be over to talk about it! :)

21. As is "My Country, My Country"...
Hope there isn't too many "politically inconvenient" nominees that the right wingers all unite behind "Deliver Us From Evil". Oh wait, that's not exactly what the God Squad wants to win either! Yay!

23. Also check out "West Bank Story"
Edited on Tue Jan-23-07 11:33 AM by calipendence
I saw that on Link TV (or it might have been Free Speech TV) earlier. It is a pretty cool take off on the West Side Story musical set between the Palestinians and the Israelis (much like the Jets vs. Sharks), complete with the musical style dancing and singing added to it too. That will be my emotional favorite for "Best Short Live Action Film".

14. I already knew all the info, so I expected to be bored stiff, but
the presentation was riveting. If it held my jaded attention for an hour plus, it is well enough done that it will continue to open eyes.

For a film featuring a guy in a lecture hall with a pointer, this film was amazingly well done. It should be nominated for that feature alone.

Can't wait to see Al and Tipper on the red carpet. Wonder whether Joan Rivers will know who they are without being handed a card by her assistant.

19. I hope they win and I hope the producers ask Al Gore to accept for them.
As great a documentary as AIT is, it would not have been quite the incredible presentation without Al Gore. He is the reason for its phenomenal success, and that's not to take away from all the others who contributed. It still boggles my mind that the media was able to persuade so many people in 2000 that he's "boring."

I hope An Inconvenient Truth wins, for all kinds of reasons. The publicity alone will cause more people to see the film.

Maybe when bush leaves politics he can star in his own documentary, called An Inconvenient Dumbass.

Not a doc, but a great blend of political and fantasy elements, set in Franco Spain.

Go see it!

Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' gets two Oscar nods

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Al Gore may have lost the 2000 presidential election by the slimmest of margins, but the former vice president is hoping his critically acclaimed movie on global warming, "An Inconvenient Truth," experiences a different fate at the upcoming Oscars.

The movie received two Oscar nods Tuesday -- one for best documentary and one for best original song:

Melissa Etherige's "I Need to Wake Up."

35. I believe this is the first time a documentary has received a best song nomination.
I'm not sure why you're laughing--it's Melissa Etheridge's song "I Need To Wake Up," and it's a very good song. Certainly as good as any of the other contenders.
