Rumsfeld: Saddam to Have POW Protections
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=533&e=1&u=/ap/20031215/ap_on_re_mi_ea/saddam_us

WASHINGTON - Saddam Hussein will have protections accorded to prisoners of war as U.S. officials try to press him for information on the insurgency against coalition forces, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld says.

Rumsfeld said Sunday it was too early to know whether Saddam would take a hardened approach with interrogators or would cooperate, but he described Iraq's former leader as one who projected a tough-guy image but was captured as a wimp, cowering in a hole in the ground.

....

Hmm, strange break with usual detainee deal. Will not last?

2. A prisoner of war cannot be accused for the things he did before
the war, right?

3. no idea.
but we will probably turn him over to the new Iraqi government for a sham trial (not that it matters for him since he is obviously guilty of all kinds of shit), then he will be put to death.

5. __"captured as a wimp, cowering in a hole in the ground"__

. . Watch urselves boys

. . This guy got beaten badly as a kid, rose up to be one of the most dangerous dictators in the world.

. . Saddam may be nasty, but don't think for a minute that he's stupid.

. . If indeed this IS the real Saddam(saving my final vote, not convinced yet) watch ur backs.

. . He had tears in his eyes as he ordered dozens executed when he assumed power.

. . He can act, and I still bet he ain't no "wimp" !

. . Murikkans should be familiar with the phrase "playin' possum"

. .

6. So Saddam will get POW status
but the 100's of prisioners in GITMO, including a few who are children don't get shit. What's wrong with this picture?

15. Well, you see....
Saddam used to be friends with Rumsfeld, Chaney, Bush I, and many others in the current administration. The people in Gitmo weren't friends. So he gets special treatment before his trial.

(Yes, I'm being sarcastic. I think it's more that too many people would bitch if he disappeared in Gitmo. I still feel he should be sent to the Hague, but I have my doubts the current administration would allow it.)

7. I doubt if Saddam will ever see a public 'trial'
Saddam has way too much info on the BFEE and the various BushCo cronies that empowered him through the 80s.

8. Why show him on tv then
Wasn't there a big stink about the Iraqis showing US POWs on tv after their capture?

Isn't showing Sadaam having a medical exam the same thing?

Double standards, no?

12. exactly. He already doesn't.
Rumsfeld must believe that the public is stupid enough to accept that the US is following the Geneva Convention even when it parades in front of us evidence to the contrary.

10. A tough guy image...
but a wimp cowering in a hole in the ground?

That kind of sounds like Bush, talking tough, and hiding in a hole in Nebraska when 9-11 goes down.

Mind you Bush had that courageous visit to Baghdad, so maybe they ain't the same.

11. And here is a picture of Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam
back when Reagan/Bush and Israel were helping get arms to Baghdad to fight Iran. What a nazi he is.

13. And Rumsfeld at the time KNEW of Chem. Weapon use
Total hypocrite.

Of course, the limp news media can't refresh Rummy's memory of his embrace of Saddam WHILE he was gassing his own people.
