Kurdish troops surround a U.S. force in north Iraq

Erbil - Sulaymania, Jan 11, (VOI) – Forces of Zirfani Brigade affiliated to Kurdistan Democratic Party on Thursday surrounded a U.S. force at the entrance of Einkawa town in northeastern Erbil, an informed source in the northern Iraqi province of Erbil said.

“This American force wants to launch military operations in Einkawa,” the source, who declined to be named, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI). He did not elaborate on the nature of such operations.
The U.S. force “is made up three personnel carriers while Zirfani forces include some 200 elements,” the source said.

At dawn Thursday, U.S. forces raided the Iranian consulate in Erbil, seized computers and documents and detained all staff.

It was not immediately clear if the siege of the U.S. force was related to the consulate raid.

What the fuck is Commander CuckooBananas doing???

Do we need to get Jimmy Carter to send a bunch of helicopters to try and rescue the Iranians now?

9. I don't think they want to be in another war with Iran
They've already got the US occupation to deal with, that's a given; but taking the role of astroturf in a US-Iran conflict just can't be appealing.

12. Holy crap!!
I totally underestimated how bad things could get.

Couldn't they take the hint from Kurdish protests over the first raid?

U.S. forces are acting like they own the place.

Consulting the locals may be tricky with the conflicts over Iraqi and
Kurdish authority, but they still needed to do it. So we're going after
the Iranians. We may be at war with everybody there before this is over.

14. Upshot: THIS is why you don't want to be in a civil war.
