Reid wants end to 'intractable' Iraq war (radio address)

The U.S. Senate majority leader said Congress, now under the control of Democrats, wants to help the White House "find an end to the intractable war in Iraq."

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., assumed the mantle of majority leader this week and used his party's Saturday radio address to look at the Senate Democrats' agenda -- which includes ethics reform, raising the minimum wage and expansion of stem cell research. But Reid said Iraq presents the most important issue.

"The new Congress will face many challenges this year but none more important than working with President Bush to find an end to the intractable war in Iraq."

"When President Bush does come forward with his plan, Senate Democrats will keep working with his administration to help the Iraqis succeed," Reid said. "We have a series of Iraq oversight hearings scheduled this month. We will use these hearings to ask tough questions, demand real solutions and keep working to bring this war to a close."

2. I wish I could feel more optimistic about this. But what does:

"When President Bush does come forward with his plan, Senate Democrats will keep working with his administration to help the Iraqis succeed," really mean. The Senate Democrats need to come up with their own plan, not wait for the President to come up with one. First they need to introduce legislation limiting the President's power to expand the war, i.e. invade Iran. Investigate all you want but please stop the potential invasion of Iran. The President appears to be mad, like in crazy. An exit strategy would be nice, someone? someone? A specific timetable with the threat of limiting funding as a way of controlling the actions.

3. i fear that the US will give it one more final shot!!

4. Why only one? It is clear that the neocon controlled administration

will settle for nothing less than victory regardless how many of "our" loved ones die. They have nothing to loose, their money is in foreign banks anyway.

6. Yes there are a number of individual democrats with plans, that isn't helping

We need the Democrats in Congress to get together behind a plan.
