No conflict for Baker: Bush (Move along. Nothing to see here)
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/20031212/pl_afp/us_iraq_debt_baker_bush&cid=1521&ncid=1473

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) rejected warnings that James Baker, charged with reducing Iraq (news - web sites)'s crippling debt, may face conflicts of interests because of his ties to business interests.

"Jim Baker is a man of high integrity. He's a man of enormous experience," Bush told reporters during a public appearance at the White House.

"It makes sense for him to serve our country on an important mission, and that mission is to encourage countries to forgive debt so the Iraqi people can more easily grow a nation that is prosperous and peaceful," he added.

Baker leaves the United States Monday bound for Europe, where he will seek to convince even foes of the US-led invasion of Iraq like France, Germany and Russia to help ease that war-ravaged nation's debt.

2. I'm really becoming amazed
by Bush-speak. After doing a lot of studying this weekend, and reading complicated text, you really see how Bush talks like just a kindergarten teacher. Everything is so simple, he uses coded words for emotional impact. It's such an absolutely sad statement about America, that you have academics discussing things like "axes of evil" and such.

3. I'm just waiting for Junior to bring his daddy into the picture.
I wonder what "assignment" 43 has picked for 41 before the 2004 election?

6. I suppose since he has been meeting with Putin a lot
that any promising Democrat that takes off next year might just find him or herself, uh, dead.
That would be 41's style of politics.

7. Dupe... locking
Let's keep our discussion about James Baker and the Bush White House Reaction consolidated into the earliest LBN thread on the topic, which can be found here:

Baker Gets Backing As Iraqi Debt Emissary

NNN0LHI, it would be very helpful if you could add your link to the original LBN thread.

Thanks!
