US soldier killed in Baghdad is 2,999th death
BAGHDAD, Dec 31 (Reuters) - A U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in southeastern Baghdad on Saturday, the U.S. military said in a statement.

The soldier was the 2,999th member of the U.S. military to die in Iraq since the invasion of March 20, 2003 and the 110th so far in December, the deadliest month for the U.S. forces in more than two years.

1. I'm surprised the didn't hit 3000 yesterday.
it averaged out to yesterday because of so many deaths last week. I suspect they with held the news from us so bush could be popular with his bloodthristy base over saddam.

8. 3,000 soldiers dead.
Each with their entire lives ahead of them. Each died for reasons nobody can explain.

It is a shameful milestone. May they each rest in peace.
